In my R era: reading, running, and rabbits. Photography is original. Now living in Philly.

A lot of traits domestic rabbits have been selected for are bad for the rabbits: short faces cause respiratory issues, Rex fur leads to sore hocks. These aren’t quite as severe as the hairless cats, but aesthetics over welfare is a common choice for rabbit breeding. (So adopt don’t shop)

Nobody has an inalienable right to own a cat. If someone has cat allergies they can try shots or other Rx interventions for themselves, not support the breeding of disabled animals. The breeding of Sphynxes is so unethical that it's banned in several countries. www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle...

Looking at hydration vests again. And again, I am annoyed that my bust size is (still) too large for “women’s”options. The main reason I would want my water carrier to be gendered is because boobs change the geometry.

I'd be deader than Mitch McConnell if our excellent union health insurance hadn't paid for the operations and the unbelievably costly drug regimen that have kept me alive, with day-to-day good health This contract is a matter of life or death for me. Please support us

These days I only use my smart watch when running. I lost it in my sock pile, and by the time I thought to use “find my watch” the battery was too low. I found my watch in the jumble of socks this morning, and after it had a few minutes to charge, it started pinging. A little too late to be useful 😂

Today’s the anniversary of John Riedl’s death. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_T.... John was @md.ekstrandom.net’s Ph.D. Advisor. We experienced a lot of loss during what we call the Year of Hell, but John’s death was one of the most acutely painful. I really hate melanoma.

What are people using these days to send out emails to lists of like 30k people? The company we’ve been using just announced they’re raising prices so they can include ai features with no way to opt out so it’s time to revisit.

Chapter 38 begins with Mr Collins delivering the longest, most comprehensive, most meandering goodbye you have ever heard. And I mean that as a Minnesotan.

One of the most insidious mechanisms of rape culture is the way we treat a rapist experiencing *literally any consequences at all* as "ruining their lives." Not getting an extremely competitive job that literally 100 people have is not only not a death sentence-- it's not a sentence. At all.

If I hadn’t already left Christianity, perimenopause would certainly try my faith. I cannot fathom a good deity designing a system in which fluctuating estrogen messes up tendons. “Oh, you’re done making babies? I guess you don’t need to use your hands and feet anymore.”
