Yes, exactly. Which is how, while on the face of it FIJAGDH sounds like the sane attitude, in practice the phrase sometimes got hijacked to defend things that are the opposite of wholesome, proportionate, or generally sane.

Spellled FIAWOL and FIJAGDH, usually. I get what you’re saying and I’m pretty sure I agree with your outlook, but historically in actual use those acronyms didn’t really map with any degree of reliability on the distinctions now often mapped onto them.

I saw an oral history of 60s fandom once where someone was talking about the conflict between "FIWOL" people and "FIJAH" (Fandom Is Just A (Goddamn) Hobby" people and I remember being like, yeah... we ditched the acronyms but not the thing

i got mugged at shotgun point. the cops arrested the wrong guy, hustled me out of court at the hearing when i said ”that’s not the guy,” told me “you didn’t see him,” made me do a lineup at the prison and when i said “that’s the guy i saw in court, still not him” told me “it’s OK, he’s a bad person”
