In "What is a core game loop?" at SCM, I wondered if every game *must* contain a core game loop (defined broadly). Good discussion in the comments. I think I found a loopless game, similar to the concept of through-composed music! The Wildfire Trilogy designed by @gamefiend.bsky.social ... (1/2)

Maybe I just have too much love in my heart (or too much wine in my glass), but I kinda loved Curtains? You can reeaaaaaaaally see the giallo influence in its crumbly cohesion, dreary dreaming, and scuffed logic, and there's so much merit in the slasher genre already eating itself like that by 1983?

A child-sized doll on the middle of the road A “hag mask” in a suitcase of luggage A young woman in a costume wardrobe lit by ugly pink neon A decapitated doll head in the snow

Curtains (1983), Richard Ciupka and Peter R. Simpson

I just need to get my thoughts out of my head. Sorry. If Jacob Geller had been truthful from the beginning, it would have allowed people to make an informed decision on whether or not they wanted to watch his content. Maybe he wouldn't have gotten as popular but at least he would have been honest.

"Indies will save us" No! YOU WILL SAVE INDIES! Go leave a review for that neat indie game you like, share the trailer for an upcoming game you're anticipating, tell your fave developer they did a good job, go tell people about such and such game that's just come out, you can make a difference!

try boothing in non-rpg spaces--pay $25 for a table at a local craft show or flea market or zine fair or diy event. you'll learn a lot about how completely approachable rpgs are, how to communicate them to people outside of this website, and to experience the joyful discovery they feel.

I honestly believe anyone interested in making games should try boothing to sell/explain and demo games - it’s such an effective crash course in learning how a large variety of players engage with games.
