Everyone's Patreons are losing money right now. It's like being laid off at a slow bleed. And that money isn't going to other Patreons. It's just going away. It's needed to keep people fed and housed, because shit sucks right now. Starting a Patreon in 2026 might pay /some/ of your bills in 2036.

It let us become one of the first groups of game writers to go independent, so we got a lot of support. But we're losing patrons or they have to reduce their pledge, and the exit surveys mostly say the same thing: They're just broke.
Word of mouth is basically the only way small team projects can gain any traction. People hate ads with a passion, and ignore creators when they pitch their own work. But people will give something a chance when a person they know says they like something

My hometown created an entire building to house artists downtown in order to bring more art into the city. Every apartment had artists, rent was under $400 for a 1,000 square foot downtown apartment. And it worked and continues to work. Murals started going up everywhere, events, etc.
