As the Great Lakes & eastern seaboard experience ongoing smoke events from hundreds of actively burning Canadian wildfires, here are recent NASA and NOAA imagery showing smoke & fire locations. Smoke events will be likely to co-occur throughout the summer. Smoke, like 🔥, is a global issue.

As someone who has been asked many many time to make satellite images of open ocean to show the “Great Pacific Garbage Patch” (no, you can’t see tiny bits of plastic distributed over 1,000s of square kilometers), this story really resonates with me.

I was curious what a view of Earth matching the Artemis II pic would look like from a conventional weather satellite. Here’s a thermal infrared (heat) image from directly above the Prime Meridian at 00:30 April 3rd from @eumetsat.int (MTI1) rotated to match as closely as possible. 🚀🌍🌔
