That Buc-ee’s lawsuit is going to send so many new customers to Beaver’s Mini Mart, which is located way off the beaten path. Hell, if it wasn’t for the fact that I shortcut down that residential road to my doctor’s office, I’d have never even known it was there.
Beavercreek is full of beaver logos. Some businesses worry Buc-ee’s may sue them next
Beaver’s Mini Mart, the small corner store being sued by Buc-ee’s for trademark infringement, is not the only small business in the Dayton suburb to have a cartoon beaver as

I thought the new Spider-Man movie was just OK, but I did love that it began with a “Wolf Like Me” needle drop
Good reporting on the U.S. military’s stupid, shameful cruelty toward trans troops

The Pentagon is relying on closed-door hearings to kick out transgender service members. An Army Reserve lawyer is one of the few who have seen how they really work.

Forgot to share this fun @reclinernotes.bsky.social post after reading it last week!
(Ruby Vroom revisit prompted by this piece)
Too many to choose from. But today maybe I’ll go with: Swervedriver — Raise/Mezcal Head/Ejector Seat Reservation or Blue Mountain — Dog Days/Home Grown/Tales of a Traveler or YLT — Painful/Electr-O-Pura/I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One
What's the best three album run from a band? (the correct answer is Moving Pictures, Signals, and Grace Under Pressure by Rush, but I'm excited to learn second place)
I rarely eat at Taco Bell, so I’m just now learning that the spicy potato tacos are distinctly superior to ground beef
Wussy (including a couple of EPs): Don’t Leave Just Now Rigor Mortis Jonah Happiness Bleeds Pizza King New American Standard Teenage Wasteland Dropping Houses Gloria The Great Divide
here’s a little game… pick a band/artist, and name your top however many songs you can do, limited to one per album
never thought short form video would be able to capture a type of humor i can only describe as “the far side-esque” but this comes close.
Waited out last night’s tornado warning inside a Culver’s. Now that’s what I call peak Midwesterning.
Ha! He did this at the Cincinnati show I went to a couple weeks ago.
John Mellencamp interrupted “Pink Houses” for a political jab. Here's the moment that drew applause.
Every time I see the words “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” that Sting song from the late ‘90s plays in my head
The dictionary vibes from my birth year are just no good. I mean, fucking “aliteracy”? Plus it was the early Reagan era and all that. But I was able to salvage these: boom box buffalo wing/buffalo sauce ET multi-disc warm fuzzies

great thread---so many of these compilations are pure gold, wonderful music
There was a good 25-year stretch where i’d pick up as many 60s-70s African comps on CD as I could Some favorite V/A comps: Afro-Rock, vol. 1 (2001) *unfortunately, vol. 2 was never released strut.bandcamp.com/album/afro-r...

Oh man, The Lassie Foundation is one of those great bands I rarely hear talked about. Didn’t realize Wayne Everett was releasing solo music!
#NewMusicFriday 🧵 Wayne Everett, 'After Dark' Wayne's (The Lassie Foundation) sweet falsetto is a constant source of comfort for me. Sunny indie-pop meets romantic post-punk in a concise EP that's never short on surprising hooks. wayneeverett.bandcamp.com/album/after-...

Picking myself up off the ground after sustaining a direct hit
Were you a child who read The World Book Encyclopedia for fun?
Over the past day, I’ve gotten spam calls from 5 different numbers in Ashley, Indiana. I know it’s just caller ID spoofing or whatever, but it’s very funny to imagine that little burg off I-69 as a secret empire of international cybercrime.
[waggles eyebrows] “Babe, it’s Election Day … and you know what that means!”
The only taxidermied blue whale in the world, 1865 CE, now housed at the Natural History Museum in Sweden. The public was allowed to enter the whale up until a couple was found having sex inside it. Now the whale’s jaws are opened only for special occasions, such as Swedish election days.
Fiction: shelved alphabetically by author last name Nonfiction: alpha by author within broad subject areas … except for history, which is in sorta chronological order I also have separate bookcases for my “permanent collection,” my collection of old mass markets, and the books I haven’t read yet
Enough of the horrors and doom scrolling. Let's talk about something fun. How do you arrange your books?
My MIL has dementia, and her mail comes to our house so she doesn’t have to deal with it. And boy, is it radicalizing to see all the sleazy junk mail she gets … and to think about how most of it is designed to confuse and frighten vulnerable elderly folks.
Wow, what a ride this novel was — shadowy and sly and immersive, with a narrator I’ll never forget. One thing’s for sure: I’ll read anything @craigclevenger.bsky.social writes!
