Well I'll be damned... The Service found the petition to list San Francisco Estuary white sturgeon as a threatened DPS as "warranted by precluded." I truly didn't expect this. Will be an interesting next few years as this is sorted out! www.federalregister.gov/documents/20...

I received an email from Turbotax claiming that someone was trying to file a tax return using my info. I called them (not at the number in the email, of course) and even after verifying my info, they couldn’t even tell me whether or not that email was legitimate or not. Not reassuring!

1/ I looked at 20 years of Supreme Court decisions and found that for the first time, all nine justices decided more cases by secret ballot — aka the “shadow docket” — than it did for cases argued in open court last term. 🧵:

Plenty has been said about the indoctrination bit of this but I would really like to focus on the part where lots of people who have never taught college students believe you should talk to college students like they're 5 years old.

Do they really believe any college student will attend a mandatory lecture by a CEO called "Why Capitalism Rocks!" and come away from it with their political and economic views changed? Or that students have their current views because a countervailing lecture by someone else installed it into them?

It makes sense because AI boosters have abdicated their cognition to the technology they’re boosting, a technology that is inherently conformist, homogenizing and calibrated to stroke the techbro ego.

It is wild how often AI boosters are like, "well, this technology will make millions unemployed and that transformation will simply have no ramifications for class and property relations, I'll just get to keep my big bag of money."
