The US clings to it's "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" or worse, "It is broke, but only effects poor people, so don't fix it" mentality. People warned that handling infrastructure this way is a national security risk but major expenditures for the public good is basically taboo at this point.

NEW: Cyberattacks on U.S. water supply now being reported in 12+ states and 100+ municipalities, though some may be unrelated to wave of suspected Iranian attempts. The nationwide threat follows years of ignored warnings and neglect to water systems. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/05/u...

"If you want a senator who’s going to lick some boots, fine. Go vote for Mike Rogers. But if you want a senator who’s going to stand up to Donald Trump, then you’ve got your option right here." After his primary win, MI Senate nom Abdul El-Sayed calls out opponent Mike Rogers.

AP calls a DEFEAT for Kansas Amendment 1, which would have replaced the current merit-based selection of state Supreme Court justices with partisan statewide elections. GOP wanted this change to try to overturn a ruling protecting abortion rights, but voters emphatically said no.

Personally I would love to see Bluesky expand. It shouldn’t just be the app for leftists who can’t stand Matt Yglesias! It should also be the app for liberals who can’t stand Matt Yglesias. And apolitical folks who can’t stand Yglesias. And, yes, even conservatives who can’t stand Matt Yglesias!

If @abdulelsayed.bsky.social wins the Democratic nomination in the Michigan U.S. Senate race tomorrow, it will prove that saturating the airwaves full of TV ads ad nauseam can be a losing strategy, although, to be honest, that was already proven in the Illinois primary back in March.

DDHQ previews 11 big primaries happening tomorrow! Click the link in reply for more. The main event is the #MISen Democratic primary between Abdul El-Sayed & Rep. Haley Stevens. Stevens's side has outspent El-Sayed's $64m to $7m, per AdImpact. But El-Sayed leads polls 53%-40%.

I thought the "Dale Earnhardt was a socialist who despised end-stage capitalism" conspiracy theory was ridiculously crazy, but there's people who believe that Babe Ruth never existed?! Some people will believe the stupidest nonsense to get attention.

It would not surprise me if Ken Martin resigned from the DNC chair's post after the midterm elections. If Martin does resign, who would take over the DNC chair? Ben Wikler and Anderson Clayton would be two of the better possible candidates, but I doubt either of them would be offered the position.

Yet ANOTHER chapter in the Ken Martin/DNC saga. I just don’t see any way for him to continue to be chair. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/03/u...

If you want a perfect capsule to demonstrate how completely divorced from reality the broligarchs and their toadies are, look only to the fact that someone thought a winning strategy is to bring a disgraced one-term NYC mayor to Wisconsin to sell angry residents a data center lol

Jessy Edwards@jessyedwards.bsky.social · 2d ago

A video taken Saturday shows former NYC Mayor Eric Adams in sales pitch mode in Wisconsin Rapids, as he's heckled by residents opposed to the data center he's trying to sell them on. "My name is Eric Adams," he begins, as the boos begin to rain down. "You belong in prison!" one attendee shouts.

Happy 150th Birthday, Colorado. This is the first photo I took of you, 19 years ago this month, when I moved here from across the country. I hope to give back to you a small bit of what you have meant to me. Here are some of my photos from 2007.

I don't follow soccer as much as a lot of other sports, but Gianni Infantino is a disgrace to soccer. I thought Steve Phelps (the disgraced NASCAR executive who called one of the Cup Series team owners a dumb redneck) was incompetent, but Infantino makes Phelps look competent by comparison.

ZURICH (AP) — FIFA President Gianni Infantino is abandoning his divisive plan to sell World Cup profits to private equity after receiving pushback from all corners of the soccer world.

Minnesota State Rep. Jessica Hanson (DFL) responds to Elon Musk/xAI suing to stop a bill to ban AI nudification technology: "When the richest man in the world hangs out with the Epstein class ... we cannot act surprised when he's trying to protect the #1 tool used to make CSAM."
