I like Dr. El-Sayed, but let me say that as an Appalachian, Hillbilly Elegy did *not* make any sense. In that book, Vance blames the crumbling of Appalachia on the working poor—calling it the “social rot” of the folks that live here. There’s no need to punch down on Appalachia to dunk on Vance.

I see Instagram Progressive Christians™️ are once again calling out the “problematic” language of “Jesus is my personal Lord and Savior.” So once again I’ll say: Jesus Christ is my personal Lord and Savior. I have a personal relationship with him. Corporate and individual faith shouldn’t be at odds.

This necklace is made from chopped gun stock. The organization I got it from receives guns and then turns them into gardening tools, art, and cross necklaces as a Christian witness against gun violence. I thought I had lost it, but I’m so glad I found it while moving. It means a lot to me.

One thing the Baptist tradition does immensely well is referring to one another as Brother/Sister X. I wish more traditions did it too. ⚓️
