Mark Grimshaw@markgrimshawtism.bsky.social · 2d agoI would go one step further and say people also take professional sports too seriously, to think “fairness” in running fast or kicking a ball around a field or throwing some pointy sticks at a circular board to score points is more important than human rights and basic fucking dignity.

My city in the 1910's had an electric trolley and streetcar line stretching across it, and all of it got torn down for scrap by 1950 or so. They're still finding old rails just paved over sometime peeking out from potholes

In the mid-20th century, auto and oil interests bought up electric streetcar systems across the US and systematically replaced them with bus routes and paved roads, funneling commuters toward private cars.
Why do so many progressives want this? I just don't get it.
Al@btown85.bsky.social · 2d agoThe pressure on kids too! In Berlin they get divided after the 6th class (12). My eldest already under so much pressure (despite us trying to remove it) to do well in exams etc to ensure she’s at the gymnasium. Parents going nuts in regards to it. They’re 9!
