i bring a sort of ‘i fear neither pain nor death’ energy to the pedestrian/driver interaction that drivers don’t really like
I am downtown and there appears to be some kind of Teen Takeover happening in Grant Park??
the reason good transit is not valued in this country is because the types of people who cannot drive are not valued: children, disabled people, people living in poverty
Not going to age-dox myself, but the number of words first used in print during my birth year is much higher than 2025 and much lower than the 1950s. The number of words per year appears to be decreasing. It's hard to believe that English language innovation is slowing, so what's going on here?

This Disability Pride Month, CTA Acting President Leerhsen shares the "why" behind the expansion of our ABLE pilot. Keeping bus lanes clear improves service for all transit riders, but its most critical impact is protecting the safety and independence of our mobility and visually impaired community.
Cars are only the solution in places where cars are the problem.
Nobody disputes that having access to a car in a car-dominated society is good. It gives one access to jobs, healthcare, food, education, social opportunities and more. All we're asking is for people to go one step deeper and ask why access to such basic rights requires buying and operating a car.
Otherwise progressive-to-radical people when you say we should make it safer and easier to travel without cars

Entrenching car dependency, hindering public transit, increasing VMT, increasing the frequency of parking in bike lanes, and inviting another big corporate entity to lobby against safe streets infrastructure will NOT save lives in the long run. We already know what works, and it's not robotaxis.
From the Editorial Board: Waymo wants to come to Chicago. Given how many lives these autonomous robotaxis would save, the city should smooth its way.
I’m used to seeing this bad faith argument applied to the winter. You can’t bike in the winter, you can’t bike in the summer. When can you bike? Three weeks in the Spring and two weeks in the Fall!
It will not magically become feasible to bike to work in the US South and Southwest in the summer. Subtropical regions in the South and rainforest regions in the PNW have a lot rain. Like, a lot a lot. Before climate change. You don't address it. You understand it, and stop being silly.

What's wild is that the cited intersection is totally tame compared to hundreds of crosswalks across the city. Take for example, Fullerton and Spaulding. Four wide lanes of traffic, drivers traveling 40+ mph. When you're standing on the island, it feels like standing on the side of a highway.
Drivers keep running over warning signs at a North Side intersection, but the city is planning no major changes. blockclubchi.co/4xJQghl

I admit I was a terrible driver, which is one of the many reasons I stopped doing that
During my driving years, both times I totaled my car were from turning left out of a parking lot
I don’t think drivers should be allowed to turn left into or out of a mid block parking lot
