It's summer in this part of the world, time for novels! I finally managed to read this book, suggested by too many friends and students to be avoided. I have very mixed feelings. My few cents.

🚨 🚨 🚨 new publication (with @antonialang.bsky.social) klaxon!!! Over the past decade, scholars have increasingly turned to “place” as a key factor in political behaviour — particularly on the far right, in Europe & the US. Urban-rural divides are especially intriguing. But are they true cleavages? 🤔

A four-hour documentary from 1969 about life in Nazi-occupied France chronicles the way that many ordinary citizens simply lived their lives as if nothing had changed, @dgraham.bsky.social writes. "The Sorrow and the Pity" is more relevant than ever:

🎓 I am very happy to share that I have successfully defended my PhD dissertation, "Competition Between Equals: Mainstream Party Decline, Far-Right Evolution, and the Transformation of Party Competition in Western Europe", on Monday!

The full story of the situation in Florida. 1. Universities will no longer have (already censored) Intro to Sociology as general ed course. 2. Colleges will have far-right version of Intro to Sociology as general ed course.

Florida bans sociology from core curriculum at state universities

For years, Republican lawmakers and education leaders have argued that sociology — especially high-enrollment introductory courses — has been overtaken by progressive ideology
