The study was on the DoJ website; I can confirm this, because I looked it up twice after two different right-wing terror attacks in the US. The first time was after my church was shot up by someone who had been listening to right wing hate radio. Scrubbing it was purely to support Trump lies.

The U.S. Department of Justice quietly scrubbed a study from its website that confirmed that far-right extremists have carried out more ideologically motivated killings in the United States than any other group. An archived version of the study still remains online. web.archive.org/web/20250911...

Huh. When I look here, it seems I am the only person in the world who's excited by an iPhone that 1) has TouchID (I was over FaceID the first time I had to turn the phone on while driving, and now I mask too) 2) folds up small enough to fit in a pocket (I think) and 3) folds out to a bigger screen.

Going to the Knoxville Botanical Gardens to hear the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra (it’s free this evening! Starts at 7 pm!) And I practiced my violin (for a paltry ten minutes but it’s the time I’ve got) and it occurred to me how much I love this particular instrument. I am so lucky to have her.

I have been trying to cut back on added sugars in my diet, and eat more fruits and veggies and whole grains for vitamins and fiber and such. Because I’m starting to get arthritis, and I wondered if the sugar contributed to the inflammation. As a side effect I have fewer treats lying around.

For those who are wondering about the backup battery, I charged it to full the next day. I tried just laying the solar cells flat on the grass to see how much energy I lost by not having the perfect angle. 15% or so? (close to noon) BUT … the grass under them died. The heat maybe? So, bad plan.

So the thing about the backup battery is that every 3 months I have to discharge it completely, recharge it to full, and run it down to 60% again for long term storage. Yesterday I discharged it, today I pulled out the solar cells to see how they would do. It has been charging about 8 hours.

I have been doing MUCH BETTER about practicing violin and I am unreasonably proud of myself. I have been doing my vibrato exercises faithfully, and I can tell it is getting easier to do them smoothly and at the assigned speeds. I don’t think a stranger would notice the improvement, but I do.

Decided to set myself one modest project per week. This week’s project—make a “music board”—a Manhasset-like top of wood scraps I already possess to turn my tablet holder (much stabler than my folding music stand) into something that can hold paper sheet music with a modicum of dignity.

If you care about science, please leave a comment opposing the proposed rule change. You have till end of day today, so don’t put it off. I was reasonably polite (except for the part where I said political appointees have no more understanding of science than the average circus chimpanzee.)

Comments due by Monday on the attempt to politicize science/aka kill American research as we know it. Do it at the link (counter the ton of Heritage-foudnatoin-prompted comments): www.regulations.gov/document/OMB...

AC went out on Friday. Ugh. Seal Heat And Air made yeoman efforts to fix it, but all the fixes were temporary. New motor not available till Monday. It has been a challenging weekend. Old school fixes: opening windows at night with fans in, ice water, cool baths, cooking outside, lights off, etc.

Wore my rainbow shirt and my American Flag hat today (knitted the hat myself and it looks damn sharp.) Yesterday Kip and I bought nostalgia fireworks: black snakes and sparklers and fireflowers for me, because I grew up in Oregon and we weren’t allowed much more than that, and a “tank” for Kip.

My friend's endocrinologist (American born, parents from India) was kidnapped by ICE for two days for being brown. Canada: We need medical specialists! Friend’s endo: Can I bring my folks? Canada: Sure! We’ll pay your moving expenses! Friend’s endo: Thanks! Be there in 2 weeks!

I made a thing. It’s a sun hat, knit in red, white, and blue cotton yarn with a thin rainbow thread carried along, so that it appears over and hides behind the main color at random, inextricably knit into the fabric of the hat, impossible to remove without tearing the whole thing apart.

I made a Berry Baby Hat from the pattern of the same name on Ravelry. It was a quick knit, and I learned how to make i-cord! I have a lot of yarn left over; baby hats are smol. It is blocking now and should be ready for the baby shower tomorrow.

Today is First Canoeing Day—I loaded the canoe on the trailer, and went canoeing at Panther Creek State Park. Backing the trailer is always a bit dicey but it consistently took me only two tries to “good enough.” I’ll call it a win. Glad for the sheltered bay tho—there were whitecaps on the lake!

Hola Lakeway (immigrant support group I volunteer at) had their anniversary celebration today, including a children’s pageant that finished with a song I got recruited to play mandolin for. Short version: it went pretty well, actually!

I saw my first firefly of the summer this evening in my back yard. Fireflies seem so magical to me; I had read about them but never seen one until I moved to Tennessee. These little living lights dancing in the air. Happy First Firefly Day, everyone!

Anybody else having trouble with the squick factor in _Wolf Worm_ ? I thought I would be able to handle it because I enjoyed so much of the author’s other horror work (I tolerated the horror parts because I like the authorial voice so much), but … I’m about halfway in and I just can’t.

Just back from FilkOntario. Very grateful to the wonderful volunteers who helped put it on! (brag:) I am the volunteer coordinator. We had multiple first time members, and new filkers, and (brag:) one person said I had made a lifetime filker out of her, and also she wants to volunteer!

I remember when Fox News was trying to make it sound like Portland Oregon was a smoldering wreck. I have family there--Dad was like, "what protests?" and Jake was like "Oh yeah, I drove past it; there's a block or two where there are some broken windows and graffiti; the rest of downtown is fine.

what’s genuinely wild about all this is that we have people on tv talking about LA as this apocalyptic hellhole they must invade with military force and I’m here and I haven’t seen shit all day, not even an abnormal number of helicopters I drove to D&D tonight, I’m just hanging out! it’s fine!

Went to the 50501 protest in Morristown yesterday. I would guess about 60 or 70 people showed up, which I think is a pretty good turnout, and passer-by response struck me as 2/3 to 3/4 positive--both very good for this area.
