I need a new read, but I feel adrift in regard to what’s good and current, like last two or three years. Drop your one, you have to read this suggestion that’s come out in the last three years (and that you think might be to my taste, whatever that is) in the comments. I appreciate the help!

I'm so looking forward to this conversation with my dear friend and colleague @amalelmohtar.com. If you're in Glasgow, or anywhere near, please join us on Tuesday, 7 April, at Waterstones Argyle Street.

A writer is a person who cares what words mean, what they say, how they say it. Writers know words are their way towards truth and freedom, and so they use them with care, with thought, with fear, with delight. By using words well they strengthen their souls.

I’m so excited for my former student, Mary Carroll Leoson, whose short story collection, Devil’s Oak has finally released! I wrote the introduction to this gorgeous volume of supernatural and fantastical stories, and I’m happy to encourage others to pick up her book and love them as much as I do!
