I have just managed to get my hands on copies of all four books in the Fallow Sisters series by the amazing Liz Williams and I am *very* excited! I was lucky enough to see early draft bits of Book 2 at Milford Writers Conference, and I’m very much looking forward to reading the whole thing!

So @trip.bsky.social realised today is officially our 9-year anniversary of landing in the UK! Honestly the best years of my life (pandemic notwithstanding). No place I've ever lived has ever been more home to me. Much love to all our dear friends and found family here who are to thank for that. 😘

My current archnemesis this summer is anaemic aircon in the library where I’m forced to work because it is literally too hot to work in my home. That and the toddler who shows up 4 days out of 7 and waddles around the library shrieking and laughing. I get the joy, really I do, but I’m on deadline!

Okay, seeing some people say mid-90s! And of those several say they worked in a bookstore at that time. The bookstores near me (a 3 hour drive away to the closest one) had a “Children’s” section, and divided it via age groupings up to 18, but didn’t have the YA label explicitly.

This nearly killed me. We sorted through over 600 submissions. We debated the long and short lists in depth. I never dreamed AI would make it thru. It did. And dealing with the aftermath taught me that my reading mode makes finding these stories harder for me than the average. But you can read 👇

I've been watching the film PRIDE for years and was always in love with the haunting song over the end credits, "For A Friend", which also plays after the musical's curtain call. Only upon researching did I discover that it's there because it was actually written in memoriam for Mark Ashton. 😭

7. Best book I've read in ages. EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE but gay(er). Dimension-hopping scifi about a man who learns that if he saves his bf's life, he'll doom countless other worlds to destruction. Bold/imaginative AF w/ a POC cast and a narrator who's messily queer in such authentic ways.
