This isn’t exactly the question asked but it made me think of Salter: "There's wide agreement that writing is difficult even for very good writers. Sometimes it's more difficult, sometimes less. In climbing the difficulty defines the achievement. In writing it doesn't have anything to do with it."

Writers! I’m curious - when you are writing, do you have a sense of how good or otherwise the work is? Can you tell if a particular book/story/poem is better or worse than any other piece you have produced?

Just saw this tiktok of a linguist talking about Adler’s levels of reading and he said “recognition is not the same as recall” aka “knowing” and I realized all these AI evangelists constantly mistake recognition of AI generated content as their own knowing.
