Into democracy, justice, gardens. Former DOJ, current wife and mom of humans and dogs. Native Detroiter in DMV.

Trump did a corruption to make sure Balogun was eligible to play, but his administration is simultaneously doing everything it can to strip his citizenship. What a fucking country.

Yesterday Major Jason Watson became the nation's first active duty service member to call for the impeachment and removal of Donald Trump and JD Vance. Nonviolent civil disobedience is an act of patriotism.

I do not think there is sufficient appreciation for how catastrophic yesterday’s decision in Slaughter is for this country. As Justice Sotomayor said in her dissent and she intoned from the bench yesterday, “today the majority reshapes our Govt.”

I would like a side-by-side account of the cost of: the Iran war, the reflecting pool, the ballroom, the Qatari plane, the WWE fight; DOJ settlement payoffs (like to Ashli Babbitt) and any other vanity projects I'm missing; compared with all of the "waste and fraud" supposedly saved by the DOGE cuts

If you watch the Obama Library, the World Cup, and the Knicks parade this afternoon -- and nothing else -- you can actually see the America we're supposed to be at age 250

"We've been saying from Day 1 that this is a White House cover-up. And now it's very clear that the vice president is a large part of that cover-up." - Rep. Garcia reacts to new NYT reporting about frantic White House planning to protect Donald Trump from the release of the Epstein files.

Many of you are asking how you can help me. My only ask is this: Spread the word about the threats to democracy and how we can fight back. Tell everyone to subscribe to Democracy Docket for free and share its content with everyone you know. Thanks. bit.ly/4qmEiFz

The Brennan Center’s Jesse Wegman explains how the Supreme Court’s conservative majority is constructing a world of its own, untethered from modern American life, previous Court rulings, and the Constitution itself. bit.ly/3OE0G0B

The Supreme Court’s Hermetically Sealed Logic on the Voting Rights Act

In decimating one of the most sacred and popular pieces of legislation in American history, Justice Samuel Alito quotes himself.

Not only was the Supreme Court's Callais decision cynical and wrong, it has now resulted in the Republican governor of Louisiana declaring state of emergency to cancel the ongoing congressional election. If you think this ends in Louisiana or with redistricting, you are not paying attention.

The Supreme Court got it wrong today. Their decision to gut Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act will leave Black voters and other voters of color even more vulnerable to attacks on our freedom to vote and be represented fairly. Our fight for our democracy is not over.

Photo of Justice Elena Kagan on a light green background with a quote of hers in black text: "I dissent. The Voting Rights Act is—or, now more accurately, was—'one of the most consequential, efficacious, and amply justified exercises of federal legislative power in our Nation’s history.'" The quote is attributed to Justice Elena Kagan dissenting in Supreme Court case Louisiana v. Callais

The court has simply recreated the pre-Brown world in allowing racial discrimination across a broad number fields as long as it is “facially neutral,” gutting the Reconstruction Amendments in the process.

$400M for Trump's ballroom? On top of: -$1.5T for the Pentagon -$170B for ICE and Border Patrol -$1B to refurbish Trump's Qatar jet -$496M to send National Guard into cities -$230M for Trump's DOJ "compensation" -$100M for Trump's golf outings But nothing for working people.
