Don’t forget to talk to Haitians on Haiti. There’s deep crisis in their country, all America & France’s fault, but people are still living there loving their country & having vibrant lives. Many Haitians come here fleeing crisis but not all, & it’s not a matter of America saving Haitians from Haiti.

What I have experienced, when making friends with Muslims, they are often afraid to tell me (or others) that are muslim, and or tell what country they/their family came from, such as Palestine. And it's super, fucking heartbreaking. No one should ever have to feel that scared.

And it's true kindness, not like the fake "Christian love and no judgment" thing. When they speak of Allah, or doing something because it's the right thing, they are deeply sincere, and are never preachy.

THIS. I have never met a bigoted Muslim, whether born in the U.S. or anywhere else in the world. A big difference between them and Christians/Atheists is if they 'disagree" with queerness, a religion or whatever, they keep it to themselves and treat strangers/coworkersers with kindness regardless.

Non-Muslims outside the majority-Muslim world have a awful habit of conflating women being expected to dress modestly & women being expected to be submissive everywhere. On a similar note Saudi Arabia has more female college students than male ones!

I'll tell you this about Muslim women. I had a good fiend from college visit me when I lived in Morocco, & we were hanging out with my partner's family in Fez. She was surprised that women like his mom who wear hijab & traditional clothes outside are so bossy, strong, & assertive indoors.
