I was absolutely convinced that New York flooding with Hurricane Sandy back in 2012 would be the turning point in public opinion…
I’ve always said that certain types of people will only believe in climate change when their own garden is on fire. Well now it is. #Wildfires #ClimateChange
Yes, Musk's personal acts to destroy USAID, without the tiniest knowledge of or interest in or study of the consequences, caused mass death around the world.

Rare to be as excited by anything in politics as I am about Kirsty McNeill being appointed to FCDO. It’s a very good sign that the PM has chosen someone with so much expertise
Ministers of State (new roles) - include Dan Jarvis as security minister Kirsty McNeill at FCDO Anna Turley at the Home Office Diana Johnson at Health & Social Care Ian Murray at DCMS Emma Hardy MP has Defra (including food) while Emma Foody MP is in the Whips office www.gov.uk/government/n...
Interested in who will lead on the UK's forthcoming G20 and G7 presidencies - likely Louise Haigh in CO, although Hamish Falconer possibly involved too given his brief?
Lovely couple of examples of what Healey is like in person.
My John Healey story is that as a Treasury minister he would remember the name and constituency interest (the aggregates levy) of a 20-something researcher to a low-profile backbencher at the PLP staff briefing after each fiscal event. This is why he has no enemies in Labour (except Sir Keir, obvs).
Rollercoaster ride of a call with HMRC, during which I spoke to 4 people - two of whom were adamant that there is a credit on my account meaning I don't need to make my next payment, the other two of whom told me just as confidently that this complete rubbish.
You cannot score one goal and then never leave your half again — it’s so foolish to hand your opponent unlimited tokens to keep playing the slot machine
Colombia v Switzerland being referred to as Charlie v The Chocolate Factory.
The amount of time he’s spent in D.C. lately doesn’t really give the vibe of someone who is fighting for their British political career…
I sort of see the theory of 'disclose everything, get re-elected in the Reformiest constituency in the country and say you have a mandate', but I think (this may reflect my own laziness) that surely you just go 'screw it, I can just earn $$$ on the Maga circuit' and quit.
Having been told that the dinosaur birthday cake I ordered would NOT be arriving I have now been told that it may, after all, be delivered, but not definitely. Kind of them to inject edge-of-my-seat suspense into the process of organising a child's 4th birthday party
This excellent description of racism as “OOGA BOOGA MY TRIBE YOUR TRIBE” will now pop into my head every time i witness it from now on
if you NEED to do OOGA BOOGA MY TRIBE YOUR TRIBE thinking can it at least be something relevant to your day to day life
I was sure registration for Labour conference was open but the website is now just saying 'check back for further information ' am I going mad?
Love to wait an hour for a delayed train and then stand up all the way instead of doing the work I had planned
He worked for Brown at the Treasury for years!
keep seeing reports that markets are jittery about a potential Miliband Treasury and it’s pure vibes right? he is a mainstream, experienced, capable politician who understands economics and they’re treating him like Green Liz Truss
I agree with this - think his style would have suited an earlier era - though tbh I had pre ww2 in mind rather than 2004
a side epitaph i'd probably give this guy is also that he could have maybe been regarded as a perfectly boring prime minister - an incompetent middle manager who has no principles - if this was like 2004
I just finished a paper on the use of health aid as a tool for donor national interest Using health aid as leverage to secure market access or critical minerals is bad enough. Using health aid to punish countries for refusing to do racism is reprehensible www.politico.com/news/2026/06...

there's a lot to unpack here Lord Glasman
The fact that New Yorkers are so *proud* that their mayor is Muslim must blow MAGA minds
I don’t even follow basketball and I am not from and have never lived in NYC but this thread is genuinely lovely.
Managing to have beef with *David Attenborough* is next level
Every summer I repost this article on how to spot drowning. Please read it and pass on. In the last few years I’ve had SIX messages from people who saved a kid’s life after clicking on the link from my feed. slate.com/technology/2...
Drowning Doesn’t Look Like Drowning
Drowning is not the violent, splashing call for help that most people expect.

I cannot wait til fashion moves on such that women’s clothing shops are not wall to wall brown (sorry, “chocolate”)
RE: new #Bluey episodes, a reminder that the reason Bandit (the dad) is an archaeologist is because dogs love digging up bones! However, Bluey’s creator Joe Brumm is also brother of renowned Stone Age expert, Professor Adam Brumm, who specialises in the earliest known cave art found in Indonesia…
This would be madness - this Govt has already made deeper (proportional) cuts than Trump, deeper cuts than the Tories, etc. It also would not actually help fund defence in any meaningful way. giftarticle.ft.com/giftarticle/...

Right - you all thought that quiz was too US-centric. So I've vibe-coded something far more British. Specifically British, because I am *not* making a Northern Irish Political Compass. From taxes to the monarchy, answer the questions and see where you sit. quiz.jmoxley.co.uk
This does make me think that the stories about Tice not paying tax / Farage £5m bung etc may be much more powerful than any amount of pointing out racism, etc
"Both are appalled by politicians’ perks and pay. The £98,000 salary, second jobs and lobbying scandals strengthen their sense that politics is corrupt. They are not alone in this – political corruption came up frequently in my interviews. Martin is planning to vote Reform next time." 🤷
