The recent castings have made me hunger for a certain TV show and movie franchise. Fly to me, my X-Men!

You know when you see someone get involved in an argument online, and they’re dead wrong and 50000 people tell them, but they keep going for like…a week. Because they can’t accept it. And then they seem to realise, and stop? That‘s JKR and Glinner. Except instead of a week it’s TEN FUCKING YEARS.
Never thought I’d live to see the day that I, a person with the weirdest most distinct voice and style, and a huge backlist with examples of the same writing going back years, would get accused of using AI in a review, but here we are.
AOC's "Millennials are middle-aged" soundbite is less inspiring when you realize that the guys from HBO's GIRLS are now getting cast as Professor X and Mr. Sinister. Bring me my walker.
Me: this X-Men cast looks awfully young The ghost of Dame Hilary Mantel: That’s you getting older. The X-Men are the usual age
Lee Pace Magneto isn‘t happening imo. Right age, and I’m pleased about that because I was seriously worried they were going with a Xavier and Magneto who looked the same age as the rest of the cast, but no way are they casting a man who mogs Xavier that hard.
LANTERNS fun. LANTERNS good. LANTERNS so full of spoilers I can't really say more about it — but I tried! decider.com/2026/08/14/l...
‘Lanterns’ on HBO review: Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre are a dynamite (and down to Earth) superhero duo
The less you know going into Lanterns, the better. It’s a twisty, turn-y delight.

Phew lol, the news about who’s been cast as Xavier in the new X-Men is NOT going down well.
I have a paperback open on my lap, another book open on my kindle, and am simultaneously mapping out some details for new secret wip for very exciting new thing I can’t talk about yet. Bliss.
Spent an absolutely wonderful day with little nephew. Took him to the paw patrol movie and even tho he’s already seen he got scared at the end and said we should go now lol. And he’s fallen in love with My Little Pony, and treated us to a rendition of the entire new show theme song in the car.
You can tell fascism is losing its grip and the propaganda isn’t working as well and people are no longer acting like everything is cringe and woke is the greatest crime of our age just by how many people are enthusiastically talking about art again.
Me: wow, I really have a newfound appreciation for this artist, I should check Wikipedia to find out more about his life Me: Me: oh no no nononono
Someone guessed that some of the actors signing up for HP auditioned for the movies as kids and crashed out and lol Hoult LITERALLY DID. Pathetic.
Thought I’d give Quicksilver a go, see if it’s any good. Now I’m hooked and it’s six hundred fucking pages long 😭😭😭
What I’ve been saying for so long now I’ve started talking in decades. Woke One had nothing wrong with it beyond some silly tweets and cringe moments, and neither of those things matter enough that anyone should have been advocating for it all going away or still be calling it out of control now.
i also wonder if part of the backlash was that we've decided obvious earnestness is 'cringe' &, like, look at the world around you. do we like the alterative? getting back to a sane & just world will involve a lot more of things we dismiss as cringe now
The first episode will be enormous. But it would have to be preposterously good on every level, while adding something new to a tired story told five minutes ago, in order to sustain that and overcome the greater scrutiny of her bigotry the general public will no longer be able to escape.
I think HP S1 is going to be a massive, massive hit. I think anyone pretending otherwise doesn’t want to believe it & I don’t blame them. I am, however, extremely skeptical on its staying power. I could see it start losing a ton of steam by S3. I won’t be surprised if they end it prematurely
Just got a rave trade review for Villainous Vampire ahhhhh! Will share when I know I can, so thrilled I could cry.
"I never thought relentless global heating and drought would fry MY farm" sobs man who voted etc etc
God i despise this utter twat. #climatechangeuk
I regret to inform you all that Ted Lasso season four is so far banging. Love the set up, works perfectly, and the coach is such a brilliant character your honour I love her I’m actually mad that they didn’t cast someone more attractive because they are never gonna let her and Ted bang.
James Acaster making jokes about people who take roles in HP watching everyone get firestormed for doing so before they get announced and the trite responses they imagine saying serves two purposes: it’s funny, and it reveals that they all fucking know.
Excited to share this project I've been working on for months: a long list of the most underappreciated TV shows of a dizzyingly overabundant 21st century. The research for this was so fun—revisiting great shows I barely remembered, finally getting to watch others that had been on my list for years
The 50 Most Underappreciated TV Shows of the 21st Century
From 'Undeclared' and 'Bunheads' to 'The Knick' and more, these are TIME's most underappreciated TV shows of the 21st Century.

I'm not reading any more takes about how people "don't" or "can't" read unless they get into WHO FUCKING PROFITS FROM ALL THIS IGNORANCE AND ILLITERACY thanks sorry for yelling I'm just very cranky! about it!!!!
PSA: I'll be recapping HBO's Lanterns for Fansplaining, starting this Sunday!! Excited to dig into this one after covering Damon Lindelof's work on Watchmen a few years ago.
Did we ever get a sense of how common a name "Kenobi" was where he was from, like was Luke wondering if that's who Leia meant a no-brainer or the equivalent of assuming two guys named Kim are related
Well, I had to go sickos mode and speak my truth (and hastily fill an empty editorial morning slate*) decider.com/2026/08/11/m...
Marvel’s ‘X-Men’ cast is perfect so far — right down to the creepy age difference between Emma Frost and Cyclops
Let Emma Frost be problematic!
