Lib Dem Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Cambridge. City Councillor in Cambridge. Assistant Principal for Attendance.

Councils in chaos. Officers in limbo. Taxpayers' money wasted. Daniel Zeichner's response to Labour's Local Government Reorganisation shambles: make sure the unelected Development Corporation survives. Not exactly what Cambridge needs right now.

With local government already in disarray, Cambridge's Labour MP's priority in the Commons today was protecting an unelected Development Corporation. Cambridge needs clarity and local accountability — not another layer of pointless bureaucracy that won't build any houses.

We needed the rain; we did not need the sewage! After one hour of rainfall, Anglian Water was pumping sewage into our rivers AGAIN. This is an insult to everyone paying water bills. We need an airtight, legally binding ban to stop water company bosses pouring sewage into our river.

Enjoyed an early trip to the newly opened Cambridge South station today on the very first train. The Liberal Democrats have been campaigning for this station for over 20 years and it will provide vital sustainable transport links.

10 years on from the rederendum, Brexit families in Cambridge are paying the price. The Liberal Democrats believe: - We should negotiate a new Growth & Defence Partnership with the EU; - Rejoin the single market; - Rejoin the Customs Union. My thoughts here: www.cambsnews.co.uk/brexit-failu...

My reflections on the People's Emergency Climate Briefing ⏬️ The climate crisis is urgent & the experts are unapologetic about this. It's difficult to watch but we can't shy away from the reality. The closing message was one of hope: change is possible but we need every politician unified behind it.

As temperatures soar outside of summer and extreme weather events become more common, it's clear we need a plan to keep vulnerable people safe and keep our country running.

Our Plan to Beat the Heat:

Heat-proof the NHS and ensure all care homes are air-conditoned.

Finally deliver the Emergency Home Upgrade insulation plan.

Open communty 'cold hubs' - free spaces with air conditioning

Invest in climate-resilient
infrastructure to prepare for the future

The River Cam should be safe for everyone but it’s now rated ‘poor’ for water quality. Urgent action is needed to tackle sewage pollution and protect one of Cambridge’s most treasured spaces. I've written to our MP & the CEO of Anglian Water to ask for urgent action to address this.

Had a great day in Arbury with the fantastic Fionna Tod who is working hard to make sure residents are listened to on the Arbury Court redevelopment, and has already asked a question at Council about security for the local shops and protecting the park. She will be an excellent Councillor!

A glossy A3 leaflet arrives from Arbury Liberal Democrats, with lots of local content promoting Fionna Tod, who is clearly their candidate for the May elections. Arbury has been a safe seat for Labour for many years, but perhaps the Lib Dems are feeling optimistic this year.
