A few thoughts on the Kashmir terrorist attack: The final death toll is unknown, but this is the worst attack since Pulwama in 2019. It is possible it was timed to maximise embarrassment to India, with Vance in New Delhi and Modi in Saudi Arabia. It is highly likely that India will respond... 1/x

For @9dashline.com, I argue that Beijing’s multi-stakeholder engagement with the junta, the EAOs, & the NLD reflects a deliberate effort to maintain influence regardless of Myanmar’s internal political outcomes. However, the agency of the domestic actors must not be underestimated.

"Even though Myanmar’s international isolation appears to push it further closer to China, the Sit Tat and the EAOs are simultaneously engaging and contesting with China in different sectors" buff.ly/50iUAaS | by @chetanr.bsky.social

'The resilience of the far-right and ethno-populism across the world reflects a near pan-universal rejection of the globalisation agenda. The West needs the labour and not necessarily the labourers' I write for @ndtvworld.bsky.social on Trump's deportation moves. www.ndtv.com/opinion/what...

The mobility of people, especially from the Global South, is going to be scrutinised and regulated, but it won't have much bearing on state-to-state relations, unfortunately.

Historians long ago identified the pattern of "working towards the Führer" (not equating Trump and Hitler). Underlings get creative in targeting supposed enemies. Then they invent new enemies. All to please the person at the top (who might not even care or, for that matter, know the new enemies).

Same move here. Mob boss style. You just let your broad wishes be known and let underlings do the rest while maintaining deniability https://www.nytimes.com/live/2024/12/08/us/trump-interview-news/71b8f1ff-5c45-5069-b53e-970870a929e7?smid=url-share

The TV media will avoid conversations about the continuing violence in #Manipur because it represents the two key things. 1. The absolute state failure in ensuring ethnic harmony and easing tensions at an early stage. Does India even have a Home Minister?

The state has been burning since May 2023. It is ruled by Modi’s party. No one has been held accountable. Modi and his ministers don’t care but sadly, it seems that neither do a bulk of Indians.
