Pedal assist e-bikes. It’s real hot in Oklahoma and I ride with 1-3 kids. Riding a pedal-only bike for my daily trips is pleasant for 2 months out of the year, ebike extends that to essentially 12. It replaces a minimum of 6 trips per day.

Air is bad in Portland, and worse to the south in Tigard. Wear an N95 mask. It’s a whole lot better than nothing. P100 respirators are the only masks rated for smoke so limit exposure even in an N95. You do not want smoke particulates in your lungs. They can fuck you up forever #PDX #AQI #DEQ

Anything above 50 is enough to cause lung and health issues for anyone, not just the vulnerable. Smoke particulates are small enough that once inhaled they can lodge in the lungs or be absorbed into the blood and carried to the heart, which might cause permanent health issues of worsen any existing ones. Stay indoors and use hepa filters. Use blue painters tape to seal windows and use towels of blankets at door jambs to keep smoke out of the house. You can also make a Corsi Rosenthal cube out of a box fan and furnace filters to clean indoor air. Keep pets and kids inside. A good sealing N95 mask is so much better than a scarf or bandana. I always credit this book for starting me on my book journey. Baldwin took me down so many rabbit holes, I realized I wasn't smart enough yet to really grasp what he was saying. Baldwin was born 102 years ago today, and I owe his layered writing basically everything. Happy birthday James Baldwin

This ACLU research report, Agents of Chaos and Cruelty, documents widespread civil rights violations carried out by immigration agents during the first year of President Trump’s second term. The report examines immigration enforcement incidents in eight states – representing a cross-section of the country and reflecting varying degrees of federal law enforcement presence and personnel surges – and found that over 400 of the more than 1,200 immigration enforcement incidents examined involved misconduct by immigration agents. The report ends with detailed recommendations urging policymakers to call for transformative change to our immigration system, in recognition that it is broken and dangerous to human rights.
