Dang, @aleejudge.bsky.social knows how to get the most from his guests. I ranted. I raved. I yelled like a madman, arguing passionately for what I'm convinced is the only way forward in marketing. Plus, some nice production values & editing to make me look smarter than I am 😎

One of the reasons I wrote More Than Words: How to Think About Writing in the Age of AI was to help people remember that writing is human, syntax generation is not the same thing as writing, and that thoughtlessly outsourcing our thought to LLMs is bad. www.hachettebookgroup.com/titles/john-...

I spent several hours on it yesterday while crafting sales page copy and I absolutely LOVED my experience. The UI is sleek and beautiful. The feedback is useful while also bringing a smile to my face with the engaging and creative responses. I've already started telling my clients about it. 🤘🫶

Avoid jargon and buzzwords whenever possible. When you have to use terms that might not be commonly known or used among your audience, explain what these terms mean. If you can't avoid a lot of specific terms, include a glossary of terms that users can refer to when needed.
This was a great one from April: “Not everything customers care about is “value.” Sometimes, customers want or need capabilities for reasons other than business value.” 👏
This week in the newsletter I'm talking about the difference between selling value and handling objections. It's not always as obvious as you might think. Aside - the positioning newsletter has hit 30K subscribers - can you believe that!? aprildunford.substack.com/p/value-vs-o...
Great idea here from Val. We recommend this to our clients, and we get them to re-record their demo just for us (the pressure!)

Value vs. Objection Handling
In my positioning work, it is not unusual for teams to confuse value for customers with what I would call “objection handling.”

Fellow journos covering "AI": Please don't do their PR for them! "Virtual employees" is a harmful anthropomorphism in that it (a) is false; (b) confuses readers about the emerging technology and inaccurately lends human attributes like agency, accountability, etc.; and (c) harms humans in real jobs.
‘Virtual employees’ could join workforce as soon as this year, OpenAI boss says
Why is joy the most neglected value in B2B SaaS? Are we really that scared of whether our products make people happy when they're at work? Let's talk about it:
Why don’t B2B marketers talk about joy? — maassive
I’ve been in this B2B SaaS world for a while. And I’ve noted that by and large, there are three ways of creating value in B2B SaaS. But some are more often used than others. Most SaaS vendors will talk about how they save you time. Many will talk about how they save you money. But there’s one that i
