Yesterday ICE agents shot and killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a father, husband, and beloved neighbor who spent 35 years building a life in the U.S. Our hearts are heavy with grief for his family and all those suffering at the hands of ICE, CBP, and this administration's unrelenting cruelty.

Graphic with text that says, "Lorenzo Salgado Araujo should not only still be alive - he should be enjoying the beauty of the life he built." With a quote from Ronaldo Salgado that says, "My father was a private man, a man who dedicated his life to work. He worked the last 30 years of his life building homes in the Houston suburbs. Part of his dream was to build a house for himself and his family, just like the hundreds he had built for himself over his career... He achieved it and after it was built and up until the last weekend, you can find him every evening after work, resting on his porch, listening to music, petting his dog. That's how I want the world to know my father. Not as someone who got shot and killed, but as a family man, a man who understood that good things come to those who put in hard work. I am deeply heartbroken to see that the man who taught me the value of hard work, family values, and education will no longer spend an evening on that porch."

It's late as shit but I'm here at Minnesota's DFL convention where Amy Klobuchar is suddenly scrambling because someone is challenging her for DFL's endorsement for governor, and there are lots of procedural steps happening now before delegates cast their votes. Bit of a shit show!

“The Board has affirmed its initial determination that you be removed as Chair of the Council of Health Equity, effective today, February 3, 2026" Check out my OpEd reflecting on this decision & how it's another sign of a larger issue within health care, public health & academia #MedSky #PedSky👇🏾✊🏾

When @chomilomd.bsky.social spoke up about the genocide in Gaza, the American Academy of Pediatrics removed him from a committee chairmanship and sanctioned him. Here, Nathan tells his story. https://bit.ly/3R423WU

BREAKING: Texas State Fires Professor over Palestine Speech Philosopher Idris Robinson is being fired for having principles. He gave a talk on Palestinian resistance. He would not condemn it. Over a year later, TXST terminates his tenure-track contract. But he's fighting back.🧵

Idris Robinson screen-capture from his seminal How It Might Should Be Done public talk. Text: As for Hamas, Robinson told the Guardian: “I definitely do not condemn the violence used by the Palestinian resistance. Palestinians have not been accused of perpetrating genocide, while the Israelis have been found guilty of doing so by the UN, Amnesty International and others. So the issue of whether I support violence or not is a ridiculous and immature question at this point.”

In any case, Robinson added, his main claim in both the talk and the question-and-answer session was that “the Palestinian people are not just passive victims. They have agency and there’s something to be learned from people who’ve been struggling for 75 years … about emancipatory political transformation.”

NEW, from me: I talked to Aliya Rahman, who was dragged out of Tuesday's State of the Union + arrested for... standing up. Really. Rahman, who is autistic and has disabilities, was a guest of Rep. Ilhan Omar + was previously brutally detained by ICE in Minneapolis. www.huffpost.com/entry/aliya-...

‘I Just Stood Up’: The Stunning Arrest Of Aliya Rahman At The State Of The Union

Rahman, who was Rep. Ilhan Omar’s guest, suspects she was targeted after testifying to Congress about her brutal ICE detention in Minneapolis.

This administration is using healthcare fraud- a real policy concern- as a fig leaf to target political enemies. An administration that repeatedly lies and violates the law and Constitution shouldn't be trusted with unchecked power to arbitrarily pull funding without due process.

ICE agents grabbed a 16-year-old asylum seeker--which they aren't supposed to do They kept him from his parents -which they aren't supposed to do They shipped him out of state, to a Christian ministry, which they aren't supposed to do. Then they *lost* him. www.startribune.com/how-ice-labe...

ICE detained a Minnesota teen, labeled him an ‘unaccompanied minor,’ and lost him

The Trump administration is apprehending and designating immigrant kids as “unaccompanied,” even as their parents in the U.S. search for them.

As it stands, GEO is poised to rake in tens of billions of federal dollars for detaining immigrants over the next four years; and thanks to the Trump admin installing a top GEO executive at ICE, the company appears to have kept its competitors from profiting anywhere near as much.

The current person in charge of ICE's procurement for detention is a GEO Group executive who ran the company's immigration detention portfolio. He was granted an "ethics waiver" from DHS allowing him to hand out contracts to GEO in his new role.

I can’t help thinking there’s so much money changing hands wrt ICE detention that there aren’t even enough investigative reporters to track www.michiganpublic.org/criminal-jus...

I keep thinking I do not have the energy or inclination to keep getting involved in electoral politics and then along comes a race and a candidate like Cedrick Frazier. This race is a big deal. If you believe in reducing mass incarceration and demanding police accountability, he’s your candidate.

Along these lines: if you live in Minneapolis, the Hennepin County Attorney we elect this fall is going to be the lawyer in charge of prosecuting ICE agents for the murders and atrocities they committed against us. That's why I'm supporting Cedrick Frazier.
