in re Ray Bradbury's "There Will Come Soft Rains" (which, in the original Martian Chronicles, occurs on today's date), I didn't realize the very first published version of the story, in Collier's magazine, was set in April 1985. (the current edition of Martian Chronicles now sets it in 2057).

the complete text of Bradbury's "There Will Come Soft Rains" in Collier's, 6 May 1950

Darkness borne of reaching hands. They come to ferry them home. Dreamtime moves then swirls guiding as they go. All while red land weeps. As her stolen children’s echos cry. Their pleas carried upon shifting winds across these vast lands. Lost souls unfound. Forever seeking their way home. #vss365

Please note this poem was written by me to pay honour to all the Lost and Stolen Aboriginal Indigenous children removed from their parents in what was one of the darkest periods of Australian history.
In affect their children were removed then placed with white families to supposedly “civilise” them and integrate them into white society.
This went on for many decades their children taken schooled or in reality white washing away their culture and colour. Making them in the opinions of the Australian Government and society human beings and better servants.
Generations of these children never found their way home and their parents were left to grieve their loss at a time when they were chained treated as though savages with less respect than the dogs people owned.

I wrote this piece about how I feel in my heart and the grief I feel for their loss.

*Darkness borne of
reaching hands.
They come to
ferry them home. Dreamtime moves
then swirls guiding
as they go.
All while red land weeps
As her stolen children’s echos cry.
Their pleas carried upon shifting winds across
these vast lands.
Lost souls unfound.
Forever seeking their
way home.

*My words written for today’s #vss365 word prompt of #shift

*Please note this Dreamtime image was painted by an Indigenous Australian Artists whom I could find no reference for to give credit for their piece. If anyone knows then please let me know as I wish to give them all due respect for such a glorious painting.
