This reminds me of seeing Titanic in the theater. There was a really loud drunk woman behind us. During the Picasso reference she loudly shouted out "who's that?". Best moment of the movie.

Car-blindness is real! Psychologists or sociologists should study this. Giant two-ton boxes flying all around us, piloted by people who have been rendered psychopaths, regularly injuring & killing our neighbors, and many/most people just ... don't register it. It's just background noise.

I was talking to my neighbor when a group of cyclists came by at maybe 25 mph. “That’s so dangerous,” she exclaimed. In the meantime, quite a few drivers came by at 40 mph, and she’s completely unfazed. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I continue to hope that the California left will one day realize that housing scarcity is toxic to the causes they care about.

Horvath, who pushed for this funding, says board asked for an abbreviated grant cycle with at least $1M so there wasn't an 18-month gap between World Cup and Olympics. Horvath says Metro board funded various stuff today - including freeway expansion - but couldn't find $ for open streets.

I have not ever seen a single story about a trans kid causing any issue in some sport they’re playing (other than other butthurt parents) yet this is somehow an exponentially bigger problem than an ocean of conservative men preying on children and women.

Let's play "Why won't those cyclists use the bike lanes?" It's hard to spot, but see if you can find out why I'm not in the bike lane.

I have a theory that stuff like this isn't primarily motivated by people's worries about their property values or even racism. This stuff happens because whenever there's a big shiny veto button, a mass of malicious, bored and unfulfilled people will gather to press it because cruelty is fun.

For the last 4 (!) years, I've been chronicling the journey of a 40 unit 100% affordable housing project for senior farmworkers in Half Moon Bay, California. Despite being approved in May, the journey sadly isn't over: a measure has qualified for the ballot this November to stop the project. 🧵

Is their product more regulated than apartments in cities? They are literally illegally to build in 72% of Los Angeles. That's pretty regulated!

I know an easy way to shut them up.

The demographic reality is inescapable: We are going to have millions more older drivers with diminishing capabilities, in cars that are too big and too dangerous for everyone around them, with few satisfactory alternatives to driving. It will not end well.

How will we live when we reach the end of our drivespan?

Our cities and suburbs are not designed to cope with the demographic time bomb.
