Old dad who watches too many movies Letterboxd - https://boxd.it/lw5Z Movies, politics, Indianapolis, baseball (usually Cardinals related), other stuff (not a real city planner, just have some ideas for the White City of Gondor)
Great. 12 foot Yglesias nightmares incoming.
Thanks, I hate it. I hope you're happy. 😭🤭
There’s a period in my life where had they been around I’d have thought TCW and Bari Weiss were smart people. It’s good to keep talking to that kind of person. Nazis? No. But some people are just wrong and come by it honestly. I can ID the exact 2 people who turned me around over time.
There is pervasive corruption across our healthcare and agricultural systems that defy party lines. I meet with MAHA activists because a lot of their concerns are bipartisan issues that major corporations paint as partisan. The fight isn't left and right, it's top and bottom.
MATEWAN is film that all of you should watch. It's a masterpiece that's more relevant now than it was in 1987.
‘A reminder of why we have unions’: Matewan writer and director on the film’s lessons for the labor movement
John Sayles’s 1987 film, which dramatizes a 1920 labor conflict, shows how class solidarity can overcome prejudice

Good lord I wish some of you could read on this text based social media website.
Bluesky's new CEO Toni Schneider on the platform's reputation for being a liberal bubble: "Yes, we definitely want that to change. It is already changing. It certainly wasn’t designed to attract one specific group of people."
Finally they gave a column to “reply guy excited to clarify to that nothing is free”
Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.
Also want to know who on team data center said “you know what would change opinion in Wisconsin?…”

This past weekend, former Mayor Eric Adams was in Wisconsin Rapids—population 18,654—trying to convince residents that they should allow a real estate developer to build a data center in the heart of their town. The public hearing did not go well. hellgatenyc.com/eric-adams-i...
I was big on getting my kids out in the world, because I think otherwise you end up with teenagers and adults who don't know how to act or interact. But you really shouldn't bring kids under 3 to a movie theater.
is there some future competitive advantage with college admissions if you deafened your child to Ludwig Göransson
Imagine taking baseball away during year 3 of the Trump administration
I hate to hand it to him but “he grows anxious when he has an unexpressed thought" is an all-timer.
Sen. John Kennedy on Trump's blatant reflecting pool lies: "The president says it was caused by vandals. I don't know if he really believes that or it's part of his political messaging or he's just thinking out loud ... he grows anxious when he has an unexpressed thought."
I hope VT's new strength coach is making players lift bar bells with balls at the end that each say "5 tons"
the death of brick and mortar retail has my kids way too interested in Going Somewhere. They don't have any fear that one of us picking up our keys might mean they're going to TJ Maxx, where they'll have to stand quietly for an hour while I talk to someone I know who also happened to be there.
Reminder that deferrals are deposited in escrow each offseason in the amount current amount equal to the future value of the salary and they not Lloyd Christmas IOUs (Ie $48 ish million for Ohtani’s 2026 deferrrd $68 million owed in 15 years or whenever he starts getting his big salaries)
a lot of “Dodgers pay labor” talk about a team that has not paid the majority of their talent via deferrals
I’m surprised there aren’t more arguments for the #stlcards to try and get much better in the offseason. The short argument - the offense is halfway there + there are at least 2 positions with no clear minor league candidate. The rotation easily has room to add two guys w/o blocking anyone.
The Yankees sitting around like they’ve never seen how loved Godzilla is when he fights off the alien kaiju.
what exactly do brian cashman and hal steinbrenner do all day?
The whole schedule is off. Usually this happens on Sunday night.
BREAKING: President Trump claims Mideast allies have reached parameters of a deal to end the Iran war and says U.S. will hold off on new strikes.
Nothing was more amusing during Covid than conservatives demanding to reopen the liberal indoctrination centers and end homeschooling.
When pressed on how to keep schools open, Nate Silver suggested hazard pay but couldn't seem to figure out what happens when you run out of people who are willing to get sick and possibly die at work. So much punditry really boils down to a guy going "oh no not like that."
Someone was royally embarrassing themselves on here and I couldn’t let it go without comment and now I’m blocked from enjoying it. That’ll teach me.
Gotta say the headband and makeup is on point for this sort of character.
Speaking for the first time since ralliers began assembling in support of her stance against transgender participation in women’s sports, Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham said this was an opportunity for the WNBA to uphold its values of diversity and inclusion. nyti.ms/4fHr4Qn
Pretty much seems like everyone in Indy’s drainage systems couldn’t keep up. Convention center roof at GenCon. Most people’s basements. Street drainage. Mine certainly couldn’t. Shop vac and the sump pump were both overwhelmed.
Old news. We’re being clobbered by the Blue Jays now.
