It strikes me that the popular revolt vs data centres can't be argued away with "ackshually they don't use much water!" The deeper issue is people see these as money printing premises for the .1%. There aren't really many jobs after they're built. Then their 🔌bills go up! Where is the benefit?

In May we said Nigel Farage probably didn't owe tax on his £5m gift. The Guardian now reports the gift followed talks where Farage said he'd need £5m to return to frontline politics. *If* that's right, we think there's a high risk of a £3m tax bill - payable by Reform.

I wonder if the Tether guys were ideologically motivated to support all these populist right-wing movements in the west, or if they just took a look and thought, "these are also con artists, good enough, we can work together." It worked pretty well! They got a treasury secretary, for one.

This confirms something a lot of people in Westminster noticed: while Farage was happy to bluster through the Schoolboy Nazi stuff, he has gone to ground over the £5million "gift". The story has Reform worried.

New post out: "How to beat Reform" Using exclusive polling I look at what attack lines work best on Reform, which of their voters are most likely to defect, and the potential for tactical voting. (£/free trial) open.substack.com/pub/samf/p/h...

The defining principle of our society is that people who were lucky during the dot com boom or Web 2.0 should have vast and ever-growing individual power over the entire world. The only acceptable check on their power is their squabbles with each other.

In a way it was always destiny but really the wider crypto project is now so septically associated with (and funding) far-right politics globally that it's probably the most politically powerful MLM in history. Read @molly.wiki 's excellent ongoing coverage: www.citationneeded.news/issue-104/

The index of consumer sentiment isn't broken; models that try to predict it just don't have the right input variables. I fix that and find that, yes, high nominal price levels explain why the vibes are so off. It's the prices, stupid www.gelliottmorris.com/p/2026-04-14...

It's the Prices, Stupid

Consumer sentiment is at an all-time low because prices are at an all-time high. Consumer sentiment isn't broken, popular government data is just incomplete

As ICE terrorizes communities, crypto executives who spent years posting about freedom have gone conspicuously silent. But behind the scenes, they’ve contributed at least $315 million — more than double their record 2024 spending — to elect more lawmakers to enable this administration.

Midterms plan: 1. Stimmies, Fed rate cuts, and neo-Maoist dirigisme 2. Declare Georgia for Trump after FBI finds untied shoelace on official in 2020 recount 3. ICE+CBP to polls, FBI after any close result that goes blue 4. Step 3 not required in ~half the country anyway 5. CBS: 'landslide win'

Terms have no expiry for Donald as chairman. Why would it at the very least not pass to next US pres? He's going to try to steal or do a putin-style VP move in 2028. Blair, whatever your intentions the stink probably won't come off from this. Hope you can achieve something good in exchange.
