Some days I think about making a thread of all the terrible things Owendoff has said/supported with his name officially attached but for today I just wanted to share this gem from a couple months ago I've been holding onto.

The Portland Police Association is mad they got caught breaking the law. This is because cops do not view themselves as servants of the law but above it.

The cop lobbyists are complaining that a person captured a video of a petitioner they hired committing misconduct and want us to believe it's much worse to document misconduct than to commit the misconduct? They're just mad they got caught and blame other people for their own incompetence.

Some media outlets are reporting on the Moda term sheet with some framing that is suggesting that Council sent it terms. Not the case. Let me clarify what happened yesterday 🧵

If Mayor Wilson breaks a 6-6 tie on the Portland City Council vote to fund the Moda Center, I personally begin a recall campaign. That’s a promise. He will be choosing to cut services for a billionaire’s bottom line. Portland deserves a mayor who will put the people over corporate profits.

Some late Friday news: Portland's city hearings office has upheld the land use violation issued against the owner of Portland’s ICE building. That means the city can begin issuing fines against the owners. More soon.

I got to meet with representatives from a half dozen unions earlier today. My message: the people doing the work understand it best, and ought to have more power over it. That will inform nearly every decision I make, just as it's informed my education and work my whole life.

Mitch and DSA councilors represent more than unions. They fight for all workers. Two unions are a small portion of workers, while thousands of others need their public services funded. Portland deserves a deal that doesn't give away millions of taxpayer dollars, while we suffer from austerity.

Portland politics is funny. People can be as radical as they want until they expect institutional change. As soon as you want the system to change (more democracy, more services, less policing, etc.), then you are asking for too much.

Shut down I-5 from the Moda Center to the South Waterfront! So much of our river is hidden by the enormous concrete behemoth that is the I-5 intra-urban passage. This September, we'll get a small taste of one aspect of what this could be like. I hope we take advantage of that opportunity!
