Had a great time launching the paperback of Folklore at Topping Books in York yesterday ❤️ It was lovely meeting so many new people and chatting about their favourite folklore. Other stops on the book tour include Manchester on 6 Sep and Glossop on 8 Oct

Having had the privilege of working in, and one time being Head of, History at the University of Hertfordshire, I’m extremely sad to see it close. The department I joined in 2013 was energetic, innovative and a sector leader. Thinking of very talented former colleagues who have lost their jobs.

So it's farewell to the History subject area at the University of Hertfordshire, not the first nor the last to go. One of the best departments in the country, just extinguished like a snap of the fingers. Think of the waste. (1/2)

In late 2023, the Society spent a day with Hertfordshire’s historians. We saw the quality, creativity and distinctiveness of teaching, research and engagement. We were told by a (now departed) senior manager that History was ‘a portfolio the university will guard very carefully’. bit.ly/4hLediN

Dipping my toe back into academic writing. Anything I’ve written in the last few years has been based on existing research. Any advice / tips / suggestions for stepping into a new project? I feel very rusty!

As the Galway International Arts Festival comes to an end for another year, grateful to have all this on my doorstep. The standout this year for me was Druid’s superb production of The Shaughraun. Loved The Whale Street (even though I got soaked!). Slightly disappointed by Colossus. #speirgorm #giaf

I have a tree stump that I think would make a beautiful base for a table. Can anyone point me in the direction of someone who might be able to create the table for me, please? Galway or Dublin based would be ideal. Thank you! #speirgorm
