btw both those measures would stimulate the economy more than what Harris is proposing. disabled people spend more of our money than non-disabled people and spend it more locally. whereas Harris is giving a tax cut to encourage investment that will almost exclusively go to non-Irish companies.
the myth of Simon Harris as some champion for disabled people was always nonsense, but it should be well and truly dead now. he gets his hands on the purse strings and it's not long-promised cost of disability payments he prioritises, or scrapping means tests, it's tax cuts and investment incentives
Tánaiste and Minister for Finance Simon Harris has said this year's Budget will support people "who get up early every morning and go to work".
It feels a little like the editorial team at the Irish mail on Sunday may have gone rogue on the owners as this is the second one they’ve asked for. Note the headlines are theirs obviously. My view is you have to talk to everyone before folks pile on here.
The Venn Diagram between ableism, transphobia and racism is all too real. And it has real consequences.
About a month ago, Kathleen Stock was baffled by the existence of young disabled women using mobility aids in public. Watch now as the brave press begins sallying forth with attacks on disabled people, especially young women and trans people. Transphobia is the blueprint for targetted dehumanisation

⚠️ Warning to all disabled people, anyone living with a chronic condition - take care if reading that Telegraph article on "How disability became cool". Seriously. It's a full on misogynist, transphobic and ableist attack by Coburn. 2 paragraphs in, the hate and sneeriness is hard to stomach.
It was never going to stop with Jason Arday. Our resident Bluesky creeper Ben Ryan is now turning his attacks onto Jason Arday's students--no doubt the fact that the student is a Black woman has nothing to do with Ryan and Wright's apparent concern for "academic rigor"
The geographer in me loves this. Africa is ~14× larger than Greenland, yet on the Mercator map they can look almost the same size. Serious implications for perception, representation and equity, as maps don’t just show the world… they shape how we see it. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
UN votes to adopt new world map to reflect Africa's true size
The Togo-sponsored resolution was backed by 164 nations - the US the only nation to vote against it.

Excellent. This means the eventual end of public funding for horse and greyhound racing, I guess.
Yes it can! That’s literally the point of the government!!!
Remember when IBEC raised concerns about Domestic Violence leave? The worst.
Ibec asks Minister for Enterprise to reject proposed 79 cent increase to minimum wage
Jesus Fucking Christ this government is absolutely fucking useless. Public transport price increases during a fuel crisis while burning over a billion on duty cut. #IrishPolitics #SpéirGorm
Bus and train fare hikes to be announced by transport authorities
So maintain fuel excise cuts to subsidise driving more, and raise public transport fares -- is that where we are at with transport policy atm
NTA announcing public transport fare increases tomorrow?
A guy spends a really, really long time trying to get rid of a piece of jewellery.
Make your favorite film sound as boring as possible without giving away the title: A chief technology officer is worried about keeping his spreadsheets private.
I lost two people that I loved to this extremely cruel disease. Any scientific breakthrough is amazing. ❤️
The FDA just approved daraxonrasib, a breakthrough drug for advanced pancreatic cancer that doubles survival time. This is huge: pancreatic cancer was once thought untreatable. The researchers received a standing ovation when they presented the trial results, unheard of at scientific conferences.
The reason why people think Dolly was “politically neutral” is because they don’t understand being political as a series of actions born of commitment to an idea. Being political as defined by the pundit class is to be in front of a microphone delivering sound bytes, it’s something to be devoured
In a world of JK Rowlings, be a Dolly.
Dolly Parton on trans rights. God I loved her.
By almost any measure Dolly embodied "the American Dream." Some people will come from nothing and make it big and consider the problem now solved. Others will remember that there are still others with nothing and use what they have to help.
Really flies under the radar how psychopathic it is to tell people who choose not to have children that they'll never experience "real love"
Eldercare is a very real thing once you are facing it and we don't talk about it enough.
I am looking for someone to go or who is planning to go to the Irish National Archives in Dublin and take a photograph of some records they hold in the outrage papers. Not urgent at all, and I will pay, of course. #spéirghorm #speirgorm
"We hired you to research modern liberalism and you spend all day associating us with debunked race science" I dunno, feels pretty firable
Here is the full suspension letter from UGent that was sent to Nathan Cofnas, it shows ample reason for his suspension and potential termination. Including breach of contract, using the University of Ghent’s name and legitimacy to promote his racial supremacist views and causing reputational damage.
