Honestly a little impressive that EA found a way to be a worse videogame company. You figure at a certain point they were tapped out and then they do this. It’s like a basketball player who scored zero points in a season managing to score points for the other team.

got a text today from an unknown number asking me if I'd seen Christopher Nolan's Odyssey and if I had any thoughts on it ... it turned out to be from a friend's new number, but for a while I really thought it was a devious new scam targeted at heterosexual men
Oh my god the dietician who is telling everyone in the White House to only eat steak and sauerkraut doesn't wipe his ass.

Haters focusing on Liddle's violence toward his pregnant partner, his galloping racism, or his repeated defences of paedophilia, should remember to mention he was also one of the worst writers to ever do it. A calorie-free hack of the first water. Just absolute dogshit, back to front.

Classic Hits 4FM playing Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" a song that came out a decade ago... Like why am I annoyed that that isn't significant enough of time for it to be on this channel? It's apparently the home of the 80s & 90s in Ireland?
"Between 1951 and last Sunday, Mayo have played in a grand total of 13 All-Ireland Senior Men's Football Finals and failed to win all 13 (and let's not overlook that spooky little 13 in the mix, while we're at it)."
"Some people have extremely incorrectly offered the take that Mayo ‘broke the curse’ when they won last weekend. That is the absolute opposite of what happened, and the worst lesson we could possibly take from Mayo’s win. The curse was not broken; it was fulfilled." Surrealing:

Can we be very clear? The curse wasn’t broken, it was fulfilled. The curse was... real
How can we use curses to our advantage going forward?

I agree strongly with this -- in that difficult moment, the possibility of collective effort was conceivable. Not everybody felt it, but many did. I think the political class did not like this one bit.
Covid lockdowns demonstrated, in a deeply imperfect way, the possibility of large-scale social solidarity for a higher cause. That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.
Seems like 2026 is the year the "Climate change will manifest as a series of disasters viewed through phones with footage that gets closer and closer to where you live until you're the one filming it" post lands for everyone.

Don't worry folks, your Minister of State in the Department of Agriculture is only *personally* a climate denialist and far-right wannabe.

A playbook repeated from Turkey to Norway to Belarus. Rather than recognising it Europe’s right took an opportunity to pile on to a centre-left leader they resent: domestic troubles aside, Sanchez has outperformed them on economic growth while seeing a green energy switch pay off
