BREAKING NEWS: The U.S. is preparing possible “final blow” options against Iran if talks fail like seizing key islands (e.g. Kharg, Abu Musa), blockading oil routes, or launching massive airstrikes (and potentially ground ops). Forces are being deployed, but no decision yet. Source: Axios
"This machine-slop will lead to the death of my craft, all so we can reflexively consume mass-produced garbage and keep the working class poor. I get why Luddites are pissed, and if these tapestries weren’t so funny, I’d be right there with them, bashing those machines to bits."
Being a Luddite Is Cool and All, but Have You Seen the Hilarious Tapestries These New Looms Are Making?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m as invested in keeping my job as the next weaver. When the boss brought in that big new power loom, I was pretty skeptical....

If you missed an episode of your favourite series, it was possibly lost to you forever.
Without revealing your actual age, what's something you remember that if you told a younger person they wouldn't understand?
What was your #childhoodcinema? Colosseum in Carlow (Ireland). First film I saw there was He-Man the animated film. Last one was Jurassic Park. Closed in 1993. There was a sweet shop beside it, so my other memory is sneaking in stuff rather than buying from the more expensive cinema snacks.
What was your #childhoodcinema Kingsway, Galashiels
This mural has gone up in Kingston, ostensibly for Christmas but AI has ensured it's actually to celebrate the return of our dark lord Cthulhu

“The bogs, rivers, mountains, and shorelines are more than preservers of old myths, bones, and memories. They are energy banks and time sponges, and what is held within them seeks release.” ― Manchán Magan, Listen to the Land Speak: A Journey into the Wisdom of What Lies Beneath Us

OK, this is wild. In September 2023, geophysicists across the world started monitoring a very odd signal coming from the ground under them. It was picked up in the Arctic. And Antarctica. It was detected everywhere, every 90 seconds, as regular as a metronome, for *nine days*. What the HELL? 1/
On this day in 1933, National Socialist students and Hitler Youth parties organised a book burning on Berlin’s Bebelplatz. Since 1995, Micha Ullmann’s subterranean “library” installation - whose shelves are bleakly empty - commemorates the incident.
I want a spectral M.R. James teaching us how to write classic ghost stories

Had a lovely chance on Friday 15.11. to attend the opening of Laura Skehan’s great solo exhibition ‘Interzone’ ZK/U in Berlin (curated by Eamonn Maxwell and part of the Zeitgeist Irland 24 programme) and get to say a few words about Laura’s art practice & Irish contemporary art in Germany.
After having a dormant account for a year I’m making a more substantial move from X to Bluesky. I can recommend the Sky Bridge Chrome extension for mass matching up followers/-ing from the old app into the other.
I've been here for a year, waiting and planning. It's business as usual. Re-enchantment as resistance. The comfort of old horrors against new terrors.
This is the trailer for a recently completed short documentary, ‘Here is Some Place Else’. It’s about the memory culture around a village in Germany demolished in the late 70s to make way for a surface mine. It will be shown in 2024. #documentaryfilm #germany #deutschland #oberlausitz #tagebau

I set up this profile a while ago but not yet really used the app regularly. Would like to make more use of it and less and less of Twitter. I’d welcome some recommendations on who to follow to brighten up my feed. Interested in news, culture, history, philosophy, humour.
