The unfolding world cup fiasco illustrates and reinforces some of my reluctance to attend any USA based conferences at the moment. Conference organisers take note. Hosting in USA arbitrarily excludes many scholars that the USA "doesn't like" because of their passport

Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez: “Today more than ever, it is essential to remember that one can be against a hateful regime as is the case with the Iranian regime…and at the same time be against an unjustified, dangerous military intervention outside of international law.”

Let's be clear here folks. Trump established the "Board of Peace" to stand in opposition to the United Nations. As opposed to the whole world having a say in the rebuilding of Palestine, Trump and cronies get to decide. This is a massive scam and horrific result of the genocide by Israel with Trump.

I am pretty used to corporate self-interest, but even I'm shocked by what Ellen Ioanes dug up about the Board of Peace and its designs in Gaza. prospect.org/2026/02/09/b...

🔴 Gaza | February 18

Two Palestinians were killed by Israeli gunfire in Bani Suheila, east of Khan Younis, on Wednesday, the first day of Ramadan, as Israeli forces continued striking areas across Gaza despite the ceasefire, Palestine Online reports.

On Tuesday, 12-year-old Youssef Rasem Asaliya was killed in an Israeli drone strike in Jabalia in northern Gaza, WAFA reports. His body was transferred to Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. The Israeli military admitted it carried out the strike, claiming it “eliminated a terrorist” who posed an imminent threat.

As of Tuesday, Gaza’s Health Ministry said 603 Palestinians had been killed and 1,618 wounded since the October 11 “ceasefire.” Since October 7, 2023, at least 72,063 Palestinians have been killed and 171,726 injured. UN officials say aid access remains limited and current humanitarian deliveries are insufficient to meet basic needs.

This year, in response to GenAI concerns, I made one of my assessments a recorded presentation. Currently grading them, and so far, this has been one of the most enjoyable grading sessions I've had. Finally some good from GenAI

Even when we try to think harder, we still excuse ourselves. 🧠 A new study by Katarzyna Miazek & Konrad Bocian finds that the self-interest bias—judging bad acts as less wrong when they benefit us—persists even under time pressure or mental load. Fixing it may require awareness, not just willpower.

Arising out of discussions in @csi-research.bsky.social we conducted a Registered Report replicating Triplett’s (1898) experiment with over 400 children, showing children completed the task faster when paired with a coactor, compared to competing the task alone rdcu.be/eQwAE 1/3
