Last week I chatted with fellow Philly film critic @reelblack.bsky.social about his new boutique label, Real Black Renaissance, and its mission to bring overlooked Black cinema back into the spotlight. The label’s first release, RIVERBEND, is a hell of a way to start.
I caught the world premiere of THE RIVALS OF AMZIAH KING in 2025. It is finally getting a theatrical release Aug. 14th. I break out the “M” word extremely sparingly. #TheRivalsOfAmziahKing is a masterpiece. Do everything you can to see it! cinapse.net/2025/03/sxsw...

Pretty taken with THE RIVALS OF AMZIAH KING. A warmly rendered, richly performed, and ever shifting story that celebrates not just the return of McConaughey, but also a new star in Angelina LookingGlass. My review over at @cinapse.bsky.social @ofcs.bsky.social cinapse.net/2026/08/the-...

COLONY is a gory delight. I'm such a mark for movies that make a contagious cosmic gumbo of hive mind horror and Irwin Allen disaster movies. It's a film about stepping up and working together, especially when the dead have you beat on that front! What a blast. #Fantasia2026
