Hell of a review, @oldfilmsflicker.bsky.social
"If this is what it takes to get a rom-com greenlit these days, maybe we should just let them die. Death with dignity is surely a better fate for the genre than fascist capitulation." Zero stars for this piece of shit movie. My review of ONE NIGHT ONLY for @ebertvoices.bsky.social
I say it a lot But wow do I love @certifiedforgotten.com @monagle.bsky.social and @donatobomb.bsky.social are such amazing sources of inspiration and support. Having a place where it feels like you matter is so rare and beautiful and I'm so lucky to know them both.
Crossed off a major bucket-list interview on Sunday. Greatly appreciated Director Kurosawa’s candid thoughts on non-violence and the choreography of conversation in his latest, THE SAMURAI AND THE PRISONER. Interview up on @cinapse.bsky.social!
PSA that Eli Roth does not deserve your support, horror fans.
I love living in a world where this film is deservedly a NYFF world premiere. Godzilla!!!
We’re thrilled to announce the world premiere of GODZILLA MINUS ZERO as the #NYFF64 Spotlight Gala selection, taking place September 26 with Takashi Yamazaki and members of the film team in attendance. #NYFF64 is presented in partnership with ROLEX. Learn more: filmlinc.org/godzilla @gkids.com
My thoughts on Bluesky not being welcoming to Republicans is Trump blocks disaster relief to states voting blue, & is also legally codifying anyone who opposes him as a terrorist deserving violence, & his kidnapping brute gangs terrorize the streets, & there's much more but I'm out of characters
"Bluesky is a political echo chamber" okay but I'm mostly here to chat with fun internet people and post art and make jokes, I cannot stress how much I don't care
Bet you didn't know that the Little Morton Salt Girl is an immortal being who existed before there was life on Earth.
Just learned a Ghost Rider variant exists that is a T-Rex with robot arms that rides a fighter jet. Frankly, I don't think you can get much cooler than that.
apologies for all of the self promo reposts btw I need money money me now

Tomorrow has the chance to be such a *huge* day.
I just subscribed to this block list, and I really appreciate the public service provided here
I started getting followed by some "film festivals" and "writing festivals" and thought "oh, these are cool!" Then I looked a little closer. They're all part of a network that preys on writers, charging us for reviews, and feeding our stuff into slop generators. So I made a list.👋🏻🖕🏻😠

TOWER (2016) is currently streaming on Kanopy and Hoopla, or for rent thru other apps. It's an excellent documentary about survivors of the 1966 mass shooting at UT and their memories
“Repeated inquiries attempting to analyze his exact experiences were not too successful with the exception of his vivid reference to ‘thinking about going up on the Tower with a deer rifle and start shooting people,'” Heatly wrote. An autopsy found a golf ball-sized tumor in the shooter's brain.
Just a reminder that in this country, the process is punishment. 24 hours in jail to process your arrest, money for bail, money for a lawyer, missed work for your court appearances...it all adds up. We do this to poor people every single day in this country. Many never really recover.
The Justice Department is admitting that a $14 million renovation on the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, DC, was flawed, and is dropping the criminal case against a former Olympian that accused him of damaging the pool, according to a new court filing. https://cnn.it/3RJJnwj
Orchids revived, the corpse ambulant and a poetic ruined abbey. These are the news stories I want to read.
The missing link here is Nobuo Nakagawa’s Ghost of Yotsuya—which desperately deserves a restoration, alongside other greats of Kaiki cinema
I might go further; I mean, I’m not even entirely certain that there’s a direct line of continuity between, say, “Kwaidan” or “Ugestsu” and the tropes people now think of when they hear the term “J-Horror.”
Such a damn masterwork. The primal drums of the opening, how it marries slow burn dread with feral emotion, how bizarrely experimental yet beautifully classical it is. Better than Onibaba by my reckoning. Love Kuroneko.
Kuroneko, Kaneto Shindô (1968)
There are lots of barely-promoted and/or undistributed domestic and foreign films out there that are just as worthy of attention as the ones that win awards at big festivals, get a distro deal & are widely covered. What sites or critics specialize in such movies? I want to expand my field of vision.
Broke: Die Hard is a Christmas movie. Woke: It's a Wonderful Life isn't a Christmas movie. Bespoke: Picnic at Hanging Rock is a Valentine's Day movie.
Are you saying the DOJ withdrew that pool vandalism indictment… upon reflection?
