Vigilante community policing business is using a mix of ceorcive tactics—from monetary incentive to intimidation, stopping short of physical violence—to “relocate” homeless, vandals, and petty thieves from around Venice. Social innovation, I guess. 😬 Good reporting. lamaterial.com/p/ghost-town...

The rampant incompetence. At this point, it’s certainly a humiliation kink, right?
The State Department said it takes "full responsibility" for "hastily" altering and then presenting a map of Africa at a global AIDS conference that mislabeled every single country it highlighted. An analysis by Reuters found a watermark in the map image that suggests it was made with OpenAI.
Ahahahahahaha Faced with the actual logistical nightmare of running the largest course anyone has ever imagined...forever, not even the usual intellectual grifters are willing to take the gig. The "Center for Intellectual Freedom" will return, "substantially reimagined" I am sure
The Iowa Board of Regents voted to suspend all courses offered through the University of Iowa’s Center for Intellectual Freedom until 2028 as the search for its permanent director continues.
The venom of these critics on the question of the Odyssey and each other is so eighteenth century I love it!!! We are in Whig vs Tory land!!! We are in The Dunciad!!! And it’s all about the ancients vs moderns as well
Okay now it's getting real
Data centers (under current specs) must be stopped.
This is a well-produced segment. I encourage you to watch so you can hear the noise for yourself. The professor of environmental health science that they interviewed called it an “unprecedented new noise source.”
Imagine if you mailed the IRS a check to pay your taxes, but they left their mail unopened for years and then arrested you for failure to pay taxes. That’s effectively what ICE is doing to increasing numbers of people now; people out of status only because of GOVERNMENT delay.

This is great. And, on a Bresson I haven’t seen. (Now I feel like I need to find a screening, somehow.)

Recalling the time it took more than 3 hours to make the return journey from the Getty Villa to my place in Silver Lake. Took an extended detour in Culver City, which included unplanned stop for dinner & bathroom, before resuming slow crawl along the 10-East.
There is a lot to say about the Nolan Odyssey movie. But one point that I think has not been emphasized enough is: this is a film about living in LA, as Nolan, my erstwhile British compatriot and age mate, has done for years. I gather it’s a strange place.
