There are also people w/in DSA, for example, who think the Democratic Party is the only reasonable vehicle for power.

This feels grimly accurate. I think for most people, engagement with the party feels like getting on Temu’s mailing list: Just a neverending stream of spam asking for cash and no other meaningful call to be part of anything that might generate any sense of identity or community.
Feild@feild.work · 2w agoThere's nothing to "join" in the Democratic Party. It's a brand with products I spend my vote on once a year at the democracy store. Most people's experience of it is an endless stream of texts that read like scams, their reward for donating or signing a petition. No wonder DSA is growing

The Economist's interviewer here says that she has a lot of sympathy for the Trump Administration cutting off aid, which does undercut her attempt to get Musk to admit that the aid cutoff caused a lot of death and suffering.

Waldo Jaquith@waldo.net · 2w ago95% of my communications from the Democratic Party look like this. I have never in my life signed up to be texted by a campaign or the party, and I spent fruitless months attempting to unsubscribe from these. These are functionally identical to scam texts.
Democrats should not mistake a (temporary) anti-Trump alliance with anti-Trump conservatives as some kind of invitation for conservatives to give advice to Dems on how to run the party, or for Dems to pay any attention to such advice when offered.

If you’re tempted by a democratic socialist this year, think of what use Republicans will make of these victories, and ask whether you want to do favors for fascists.
