"And who can blame them for seeking a PIP safety net that protects them from mercurial UC decisions, & provides certainty about their next meal, in a world where ‘if you work your socks off, you’ll gain security’ is a promise that simply never materialised?" By Claire Jones. Full article in link

Welcome to the ‘Youth Hunger Games’: the brutal NEET race for shrinking pickings

Young people are being exhorted to keep chasing the elusive prize of employment, even as our work-centred world is diminishing

Parts of Indiana have been without power for 9–10 days due to storms. Tens of thousands are currently in the dark (peak was over 300,000). Puerto Rico has been rationing water for 13+ days due to severe drought. Trump has not said a word about either crisis. Not a tweet. A “Truth.” Nothing

The damage is done. No consolation to be had watching these vile press outlets now grovelling in shame and frantically deleting what they gleefully posted just a few days ago -

I fully recommend using this Newscord site. It provides extracts from Arday's worst mainstream press offenders. They are horrendous. It also has a wide reach & is more powerful than ordinary petitions - it sends a letter from you to multiple mainstream newspapers share.google/yOoIbOECPi6X...

The Mail printed a psychiatrist's guess at Jason Arday's mind. Hours later he was found dead.

A diagnosis-shaped headline at 1:01am on the day he died. His childhood disability interrogated one minute before the ambulance call. A mockery column deleted without a word. File five IPSO complaints...

Jason Arday's death provides a clear measure of just how far the extreme right has infiltrated UK society & been normalized by our media. The hounding continued even after calls from key figures to stop because amplifying racism was prioritised over protecting a vulnerable young man's life.

Perhaps Arday did commit plagiarism. But there's nothing in these mainstream media headlines about how this issue was dramatised as part of a truly relentless racist campaign, in this case driven by Nathan Cofnas, to 'disappear blacks from academia'. These unnuanced headlines echo the same racism -

We should never forget how the BBC has changed this country by giving endless airtime to Nigel Farage and other rightwing extremists, while shutting out progressive voices.

And why is #r4today giving (yet again) such prominence to a hair-brained scheme that has little chance to ever be implemented? A GE is unlikely soon and the threat of Reform winning it is apparently receding. What is the justification for legitimising it?

Reading Omar El Akkad's book, 'One Day Everyone Will Always Have Been Against This' I'm struck by the thought that, since citizens are largely empathic, being forced to tolerate the insane collusion of liberal democracies with crimes against humanity like Gaza takes a huge toll on mental health.
