Lockdowns showed that states can pour massive resources into making the politically impossible happen quickly, the public will accept huge changes if they understand why they're needed, and that we should listen to scientists. Something to remember when it comes to action on climate change.
I'm sorry but I do not find this story about rare/unique books being scanned and pulped credible - if the book has been languishing in a 2nd hand bookseller's stock unsold for yonks and then is bought off ABEbooks as part of a job lot, it is not gonna be rare/unique

The thing about this is that a movie version of Paradise Lost that was as faithful as possible to the source material would legit be INSANELY good - it is already so cinematic - simply rammed with incredible visual moments

when I first started going to trans pride it was so tiny that we all fitted into Soho Square - this wasn't that long ago, too! - and one year these two TERFs just went from group to group literally photographing every single person there
Elizabeth Taylor@elizabethtaylor47.bsky.social · 2w agoI’ve just seen screenshots(which I’m not going to repost here) of a gender critical account on X photographing and stalking two trans women who she thinks were on their way to Trans Pride, both on the trains and then later on in a toilet washing their hands.
My contribution to the Morrissey discourse is that I used to enjoy going to indie/pop club night Pink Glove, and one time they played a Smiths song, and I went and complained to the DJ, who dgaf, and then I looked around and realised that more-or-less everyone there was white. Never went back.
This is actually an incredibly good quote and also if what happened to Caroline Litman had happened to me there is no way I would be able to channel my grief into measured advocacy like this - I would be incoherent with rage and grief for the rest of my life
Transparent Action@transparentaction.bsky.social · 2w agoToday London Trans Pride was full of celebration, defiance, joy, tears, pride and protest. 150K trans+ people, allies, parents, partners, & children saying “ENOUGH” at the cruelty & blatant discrimination being targeted at trans+ people in the UK - much of it from our current government!
It used to bother me as a kid that this 👇 was treated as incorrect in the kids' astronomy books that I loved. It seemed to me that the universe has no fixed point and so (if the maths is right) epicycles and stuff would be a correct, if overcomplicated, description of the motions of celestial bodies
