I ran my 100th training course recently 💐 17 courses, 2000+ people. It's been a privilege to meet and learn with so many wonderful people. Instead of the clichéd "top 5 things I've learnt" post, I was wondering if anyone had any questions for me? Serious and silly questions are equally welcome!

Earlier today, I saw a post about how important it is for people to be "easy to work with" and we need to talk about how deeply problematic and harmful this idea is. Please, lets take a moment to think about it. Who does this idea exclude? What types of behaviours does it reward?

Fantastic talk from @elmosmoe.bsky.social about AI. "AI doesn't automatically serve the public good because it's new" I'm so glad discussions about equity and justice in AI are in a keynote at #sdingov Also, great link to artist created images of AI: betterimagesofai.org

Friends, using gen AI to create user personas is a *really* awful idea. 🚩☹️🚩 This suggestion comes from the AI Knowledge Hub prompt library on GOV .uk. Here's the problem: AI is designed to give you back only what you already know. It will generate what it thinks you want to hear.

Project Overview: [BRIEF, 1-2 SENTENCE SUMMARY OF YOUR PROJECT]

Personas: [PROVIDE PERSONAS]

Instructions: Using the provided personas, create a set of user stories that will guide the development of this project.

User Story Format: As a <type of user>, I want to <feature/function> so that <reason/benefit>.

INVEST Criteria:

Independent: User stories should be independent of each other.
Negotiable: The specific details of a user story can be negotiated. 12 equity and justice questions about AI

These questions help teams think through and talk about the consequences of using AI.

This will help mitigate possible harms, consider hidden effects and check in against organisational values.

Filling out supplier information forms fills me with such a deep rage. I think suppliers must be the user group that people care the least about designing well for. "you wanna get paid?? deal with THIS, sucker!"

Goodness me, some more interesting race, ethnicity and nationality questions today from the FCA's job website, using myworkdayjobs. What does the (United Kingdom) bit mean? Why do they all say it? What on earth is "Mixed / multiple ethnic group (United Kingdom)" supposed to mean?? 🤯

A form, the field label is "Race/Ethnicity", The options we can see in the dropdown are "Black / Black British - Caribbean (United Kingdom)
Mixed /multiple ethnic groups - Any other Mixed / multiple ethnic group (United Kingdom)
Mixed /multiple ethnic groups - White and Asian (United Kingdom)
Mixed /multiple ethnic groups - White and Black
African (United Kingdom)"

Leaders: the most important questions will only ever come to you anonymously. Do you truly care about morale? Do you want to know if you've really created a "safe space"? Do you have enough integrity to hear the truth? Thanks for the article Ben 👏🏽

Thank you @jukes.ie for your talk at #campDigital this morning! Hera is a tough act to follow but your talk was interesting and funny. Thanks also for acknowledging how much your privilege has allowed you to be open and has protected you from the fallout. I have a question:
