realtime logging is a feature that I don't see out-of-the-box in many engines but that I find extremely essential for debugging. it's been fun this time around to take advantage of Ruby to make it super extensible so I can render arbitrary widgets instead of just text.

my challenge to everyone is to spend more time imagining & engaging with utopia
sorry I don't believe that "litrpg" is a genre. that's an isekai.
fun fact, the arabic bazaar (our prototypical free market) had no legal concept of a corporation and considered all interest-bearing debt a sin against god
Thought this was a fun poll result: Free markets > capitalism www.slowboring.com/p/why-free-m...
0.000% of Communism has been built. Evil child-murdering billionaires still rule the world with a shit-eating grin. All he has managed to do is make himself *sad*. He is starting to suspect Kras Mazov *fucked him over* personally with his socio-economic theory.
The debate over "the working class" just comes down to: liberals want a term to describe a narrow band of who "deserves" support (hence a consistent obsession with means testing), while socialists (like Zohran here) want to to unify the proletariat.
His answer on how you define “working class” gets at something too many pundits and politicians forget: The raw numbers might matter for policy, but for politics, it’s more important to speak to how people *feel* about their ability to afford the life they want.
I think it’s interesting that contemporary Hobbit adaptations always go “well surely all the dwarves would’ve been armed to the teeth”
I've been trying to write this page since … 2015! Each time I try, get frustrated, quit, start over. But this time I think I might have gotten the page to a good state … www.redblobgames.com/pathfinding/...

it's funny that people are like "wilson owes nolan because he put her on the map" when it is actually much more the case that nolan owes wilson because he leveraged the existing popularity of her odyssey translation as part of the PR circuit to give himself legitimacy
I've been trying out jpdb.io as a kanji flashcards replacement for wanikani (which I completely fell off of) and so far I'm liking it! Construct learning plans based on input text to give yourself a concrete goal/reward for progress (I tracked down the OCR'd text of Yotsuba ch. 1)
jpdb.io
Powerful Japanese dictionary and an all-in-one learning system for kanji and vocabulary.

If I wanted a review of Nolan's Odyssey's filmic techniques I would go to a film crit, but I do, in fact, think it's interesting to someone who has adapted the Odyssey (a translation is an adaption!!!! translation is art!!) talk about why they dislike a different adaption.
saying emily wilson is not qualified to do a review of an adaptation explicitly based on her own original translation is crazy work, but i guess you're uniquely qualified as a film reviewer or something to make the call???? reconsider this
tiffany nailed it as perfectly as possible.
Meg is understating that the project REALLY deserves to hit its final stretch goal — rules for playing ON BlueSky or other microblogging/social platforms. I for one am VERY CURIOUS about what experimental work she’d dream up…
3 days to go. $986 to hit the More Art! stretch goal. Back the game, share the link, and hey, ask me any questions! www.kickstarter.com/projects/117...
I started playing Elden Ring with the seamless co-op mod (www.nexusmods.com/eldenring/mo...) with @wick.works yesterday and it's basically the perfect Elden Ring experience tbh.

do you think any real human has ever dodge rolled. like some guys coming at you with a sword and you're like "uh oh... time to summersault"
keep seeing people be like "degrowth doomers were wrong, solar is saving the world and will replace fossil fuels!" but like. annual C02 emissions are still rising every year? I would super love for my doomer anarchist ass to be wrong about this but... yknow?
still find it wild that it's apparently easier for governments to change our definition of time than it is to adjust standard working hours seasonally.
if this vision of the future is too radical for you then my counter offer is "gay sex on public streets // raze the suburbs // criminalize interest-bearing debt // melt down every car // mao was right about landlords". take your pick.

Bowling Alone pins the start of the collapse in 1965. the era of third spaces in america is literally exiting living memory. no wonder people think it's mythological.
I ask as always: What were these mythical "third places that previous generations had available to them?" The whole idea of "third places" is just so much Camelot mythmaking.
So You Want To Abolish Time Zones
Laudable! Let's take a look at some of the changes that arise from this, through a simple case study: making an international phone call to a relative. Before abolishing time zones I want to call my ...

no one wants to consider my insane pitch which is to eliminate timezones across the planet so we’re all on the exact same time and force everyone to change their conception of what a day is
art is better when it's something humans do together and not something bought from a store
other people have said it, but: - everyone knowing how to sing & music-making being an everyday part of life. - a life before cars & engines: everything is walkable! so much less noise pollution!
what is the reverse historical dorito? the thing from the past that would blow our minds in a positive way
everybody warns you about programming in C like it's gonna be so complicated but it's dead simple. C lets you do anything however you wanna do it. C rolls up on a mini bike, gives you a drag off his cigarette and asks if you wanna throw bricks at an abandoned house
I've noticed that when -I- produce Claude-generated code/text, the output appears to contain meaning+intent. But when other people share what they've prompted, it's completely impenetrable. It's like tarot: the generated text is a vessel for your own meaning to live in.
oh god this is also why reading LLM generated code is *exhausting*; you can infer a subtext channel in human code which comprseses a LOT, but you have to actually *read every fucking letter* of LLM code because all submetatext is corrupt.
