Garden all of a flutter today for my butterfly count. Mostly peacock and red admiral. More painted ladies than I’ve ever seen and a bonus hummingbird hawk moth was doing the rounds.

A volunteer at the BiLs assisted living place organised a do yesterday. Durham Constabulary Band provided the entertainment, a fish and chip trailer arrived and an ice cream van. Refreshments, raffle and stalls too. What an amazing lady she is. Volunteers don’t get the recognition they deserve.

“It is estimated that 210 bags have been made by home machinists since Sunday.” The first nurdlers realised mesh bags would help, dozens of local people sourced fabric & sewed bags to distribute, and the bags will eventually go to Nurdle UK to be reused. What a community! 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌

My better late than never contribution to #FingerpostFriday showing the way on the C2C Tynemouth dodging the rain on Sunday. Turned out to be an advantage because we ended up in the Volunteer Life Brigade Watch House Museum. Loved it!

We are stuck in that unique situation where the council have refused to renew my BiLs Blue Badge…..again. We applied to renew in good time, it got automatically refused. He still needs it and he will get it issued but let’s just make his life a bit more difficult because he’s disabled. Sigh

Springwatch icon, humanist, and probably the UK's best-loved birdwatcher, Bill Oddie, has died aged 85. Very sad. Thank you for a lifetime of helping us understand nature.

I was OBSESSED with the Goodies when I was little-begged my parents to watch it before bed.In my thirties I became obsessed with Springwatch (& longed to be on it). Bill Oddie co-created both brilliant things. RIP, may all the great bustards & shrikes do a dance outside your bird hide in the sky 🪶

Another legend from our childhood has left us. But there was so much more to Bill Oddie than childrens tv. He did so many other Fabulous things, and his nature shows have changed the way we look at the world around us. RIP Sir. Thank you for the magic.

Next week is your last chance to visit the National Glass Centre in Sunderland. Shuts 31 July 2026. Uni selling the plot to turn a profit. Haven’t maintained the building well and claim it’s uneconomic to repair. My thoughts? Where money is involved underhand deals sit side by side. Profit wins.

Little Midge doing what she loves to do! She loves a paddle 🥰 We walked from Crimdon to Blackhall Rocks this morning. We don’t get sand under our feet as often as Midge and I would like! Must remedy that!

Dear Durham County Council, how are the parking charges working out at Crimdon? A warm school holiday Saturday, 11.30am. 5/6 parked cars. One driving in and driving back out again. 3 tables taken in the cafe. Litter and dog poo everywhere. Paths overgrown. That’s how it’s going. Well done DCC 😐
