i don’t usually respond to these kinds of emails, but this one made me so fucking mad that i blacked out and regained consciousness with this in my outbox

An email exchange between Andre Hamra and David Celis

ANDRE HAMRA: Hi David, Andre here – Stanford MBA'24, Forbes Under 30, and founder of Refer. Not sure if you saw on Business Insider this week, but we just raised $10M for the crazy idea of making recruiting free for companies and built around the candidate instead. Do you happen to be hiring for Freshworks? Or planning your next move? If yes I’m happy to share more.

DAVID CELIS: No thanks, Andre. I think it shows a distinct lack of empathy to be running a recruiting platform where people who need work and who may already be unemployed are forced to pay for the “privilege” of getting hired, especially in the current job market. It's should be so obvious that companies who actually have the cash to hire should be the ones paying for candidate placement that this comes off as ludicrously out of touch and the fact that you’ve been able to secure $10M in funding only further entrenches my belief that this industry is run by absolute sociopaths who only care about sucking the working class dry. I truly hope your company crashes and burns.

this graduation speech moment is notable, and her amazed shock at having failed to read the room feels instructive. when you're inside the bubble, you think everybody else is. but everybody isn't.
