"Make cities better" may be the best direction for climate action in these grim times. 80% of Americans live in urban areas. Creating neighborhoods with reliable, frequent public transit, protected active transit, and dense, affordable housing could make US cities *so much better to live in* while..

Occasionally, to add some clarity about the scale of the problem before us, I do a calculation like "How many acres of solar to replace the output of the Gibson coal plant? (31k, 9.6% of my county). Or electrify a typical blast furnace steel mill? (100k, 31% of my county)

Today on Volts: "uneconomic dispatch" is when utilities run coal plants even when there are cheaper options, just to justify keeping them open. Based on a bogus Trump reliability report, that practice is about to get much more common, and worse. I talk with an expert.
