it matters to have a pope whose official position is "nope actually your virulent antisemitism is a cancer that must be immediately sliced out to save the rest of the body and I simply don't care who that pisses off" that's not just about these guys. that's a warning to everybody else

and this is why I was explaining more in my gc about Vatican 2 today, the journalism on this is really tiptoeing to NOT include relevant info like "so what exactly is this doctrinal disagreement about?"

I feel like portraying it as a fringe theological dispute between catholic sects over the 2nd vatican council and finger pointing over who's a heretic, rather than as a conflict with a fringe far right sect that says Jews are going to hell and Muslims are rapists hides the general interest aspect.

It really feels like the mainstream media is so used to covering for Nazis this is just pure reflex
