NEW: Police in Wisconsin used Flock to determine that a man “travels to Michigan frequently,” where marijuana is legal, then back to Wisconsin, where it is illegal. They then used his travel across state lines as tracked by Flock as part of the probable cause justification to search his car.

Cops Used Flock to Track a Man Across State Lines to Create Pretext to Search His Car for Weed

"The vehicle travels to Michigan frequently which is a known source state for marijuana as it is legal there," a probable cause justification reads.

companies are sourcing millions of printed books for AI labs that scan them for training data, then destroy them. printed books are more valuable because they're free of AI slop, and AI labs know destroying them is an "optics problem." www.404media.co/ai-companies...

AI Companies Are Buying Tons of Old Books Because They're Free of AI Slop

No offense but finding out someone you knew died on a site with terrible UX seems just like, the most mundane thing ever idk. Random thought from paying closer attention to obituaries after writing one a few years back. Nothing recent! Just thinking in front of my puter.

A bit of wisdom I’ve learned as an archivist: Everything is always falling apart. You can’t ever stop it because that’s what matter does. Your job is to slow the process down as much as you can. It’s true with documents, books, and art. And with life too- falling apart is what we do.

ICE is engaged in a very large escalation nationwide, with the agency claiming to be hitting record arrest numbers amid the return of quotas. This has gotten very little attention from the media because ICE learned lessons from the chaotic disasters of Kristi Noem’s tenure. Keep a watch.

What a loss for the edtech beat. I was thrilled to have a chance to write for EdSurge in 2025 after years of being a fan of the team's work over there. Proud of my work there. The need for that type of reporting right now could not be more obvious. alexanderrusso.substack.com/p/how-iste-t...

How ISTE turned EdSurge into slop

The EdSurge I once knew and worked for would be telling the story of this year’s edtech backlash with accuracy and honesty. Instead, ISTE has turned the site into AI slop.

I have a new piece out today with @404media.co . The headline is a question that came to me as I was reading yet another batch of public records where YA books were being relocated to adult sections. Tfg there are experts who could set me straight. Ty @emanuelmaiberg.bsky.social for editing me.

Books written for younger audiences are being relocated to adult sections at alarming rates. We asked experts to predict what that means for the rest of us.

"These are not states struggling against limited resources; they are states that have made active, sustained choices to abandon their public schools while directing public money toward private alternatives with documented records of fraud, discrimination, and academic failure,” the report states.

Is there a good word yet for the mental tax that comes with trying to discern if a hallucination is AI or human made that workers forced to use the tool have experienced? I'm sure there is and I've just missed it or forgotten.
