Imagine writing an editorial, making an argument with bad research, getting debunked publicly, then trying to claim your goal was to serve the community, not the profession, when your research did nothing to make that demonstration. Then creating a strawman to argue against to try to save face.

2/ Adds Mirudulaa: “I think it’s natural to fit in news literacy skills because it’s not something I think about when I use them. It’s second nature, like it’s ingrained in me. I am definitely using my skills, since this profession requires a lot of research & the need to navigate misinformation.”

Quoting s'thing @cnygren.bsky.social & I are publishing soon: "the literacy argument is being made in advance of its necessity...it presumes a state in which those who are “AI illiterate” are disempowered, precisely in order to make an argument in favor of compulsory indoctrination in its use."
“If it's this embedded in the world, then it needs to be embedded in the learning and in the coursework…”

The media's takeaway from an El-Sayed win is the same as it would have been from a Stevens win, and the same as it will be if El-Sayed wins the general, or if he loses it: everyone, no matter who they are, needs to take several steps to the right.

No books should be banned, but seeking to unban some books that were targeted from a bigoted law that EVERYONE KNEW was overbroad and vague is only going to do MORE HARM to LGBTQ+ books and people. It's a potential *permission slip*.
Like, we know Senate File 496 is *explicitly* a bigoted law targeting queer folks. So by not including any LGBTQ+ books in the new lawsuit over the book censorship portion, this plays right into what the state wants: people not lining up to defend LGBTQ+ books and people.
