Where did people come up with the idea that class (or unit or module) by committee is a good idea? It seems ideally non-ideal for anything that involves progression and cumulative learning. Trying to write lectures now that fill gaps and it's a very weird experience.

Insanity: The lesson is that the present regime is relentlessly corrupt & keeps getting away with horrifying injustices--not that it's fun to imagine Nixon escaping accountability for Watergate if he were to be transported into today's political climate. Unreal.

JD Vance: "I think Nixon's historical legacy is enjoying a bit of a renaissance, and deservedly so. I joked that if Watergate happened tomorrow, it would be like a 12 hours news story. The idea that it took down a presidency is crazy."

The amount that Elon Musk, humanity's first trillionaire, spent to get Trump elected is more than double what all British political parties spent during the entire 2024 General Election period (£94.5 million).

If you've written something for an edited collection but you come to believe the collection won't come to fruition, can you submit the paper to a journal? What if it's already been cited? I'd like to submit something that I've had for about a decade but not sure what the practice is here.

Speaking of. Why do epistemologists say that the alternatives to belief are suspension (or something similar) and disbelief? Is it not possible to believe p and also to believe ~p? Shouldn't the alternatives be believing p and not believing p? (And believing ~p and not believing ~p)?

Going to a philosophy conference in September and cannot wait. All my mates and former colleagues posting their pics at lakes or castles their or flyers with all the brilliant talks listed and I want to scream. All this fun seems like its coming from an alternate universe.

Grand juror: "Are you actually presenting any new actual facts …?" Mecklenburg: "Are you going to be able to listen with an open mind?" Grand juror: "I heard this case like last week and I thought it was a crock of shit."

GRAND JUROR: Are you actually presenting any new actual facts or just a different viewpoint on your side?
MS. MECKLENBURG: Okay. I'm feeling the skepticism already. Are you going to be able to listen with an open mind? Tell me the truth.
GRAND JUROR: I -- no.
MS. MECKLENBURG: Okay. Then you have to
go --
GRAND JUROR: I heard this case like last week and I thought it was a crock of shit then and I still think it is.
MS. MECKLENBURG: Okay. Thank you for your opinion for everybody.

Two-factor authentication is a fascist conspiracy to make it appear that intellectuals contribute nothing to society by making it impossible for scholars to accomplish even the simplest of tasks.
